Mark your calendars and get ready to peruse the many workshop offerings that we are cooking up for you this year! Registration for Small Farm School opens August 5th.

This year, sessions will take place in-person, with a mix of inside and outside classrooms. Presenters include farmers, OSU Extension faculty, and other agricultural professionals. Some workshops include: Log-grown Shiitake production, Hedgerow Establishment for Beneficial Insects, Adaptive Multi-paddock Grazing How-to, Greenhouse Health 101, Dry Farming 101, and many more.

Small Farm School is a full day event for beginning farmers and experienced small acreage farmers and land stewards. There are three sessions throughout the day which will have a variety of workshops relevant to small-scale farmers, farmworkers, and rural landowners.

Presentations will feature this year’s dry farmed research, including:
• Dry farmed tomato variety trials exploring relationships between plant physiology, productivity, and fruit quality
• Tomato drought stress trials evaluating how varieties respond to differing levels of water limitation
• Variety trials featuring sorghum, cowpeas, corn, cucumber, cut flowers, and vegetable seed production plots, providing a broader look at crop performance in no irrigation systems
• A selection of varieties will be available for tasting, including the dry farmed variety trials offering participants the chance to experience flavor and texture differences firsthand.
Speakers include Matt Davis, Lucas Nebert and Jim Myers.

A Regional Small Farm Network Tour of Windy Hill Farm! Join us for a tour of the farms dried flower arrangement portion of the farm. Learn about which flowers work well as dried flowers, ideal growing conditions, and see examples of their arrangements.
There will be an optional potluck included, please being a dish to share if you can, utensils and plate for personal use, and an outdoor chair.

Are you a Veteran who is farming or interested in farming?
Join other local Veterans for our quarterly coffee + chat in the garden where we will be learning about dried flowers as a value-added product.
This will be a hands-on meetup with resources available. We will be creating 1-2 dried flower arrangements, as well as sharing a variety of flower drying techniques and ways to use the flowers as a value-added product.
