This weekend, some amazing educators from Hotevilla Bacavi Community School-Official swapped school spaces for doodle pads and spent the day dreaming big at our Strategic Planning Retreat. From brainstorming to goal-setting, they turned data into plans that serve their students (and each other) in the upcoming year. Ha! I had a great day at Tuba City Boarding School today in 6th grade. When I go in to do model lessons, I always explain to the student that I am their teachers teacher. I tell them that when they get to go home early, the teachers have to stay so they can learn from me and I can learn from them.

It made my day when I had one of the sixth grade teachers text me to tell me that the kids asked her all kinds of questions about me when I left. They were asking her if I was nice, if I gave her homework, and if I would be back. It cracked me up. Homework indeed!

Are you KIDDING me with this cuteness!? The 3rd grade students at Hunters Point wrote books about how a pumpkin grows—from seed planting to germination to photosynthesis to Jack-O-Lantern. They then took their books to the Kindergarten class to read and share.

The best things I heard today from 3rd graders?

1. Sound it out. I bet you know this word.

2. Now tell me what you learned about what I just read to you.

3. I’m having fun too! Good job!

My heart was so dang full!

I want to officially welcome Kalen Smith to the Gen Team! If you know, you KNOW!

I have kept New Generation deliberately small due to the fact that I REFUSE to hire people who are not the right fit for the work we do. I am beyond grateful for my two brilliant and capable colleagues, and I could not be happier to work alongside them both.

Thank YOU, schools who have faith in us. Your continued trust in us is not misplaced, and we are all looking forward to a wonderful 2022-2023 School Year!
