You weren’t expecting it. You asked the usual question: how was school, what did you do, did you eat your lunch, and somewhere in the middle of a completely normal Tuesday, they said a name.

A real name. Someone specific. Someone they chose. And just like that, your child has a person at school.

They found each other the way kids do, over a crayon, or a spot on the rug, or something that made them both laugh at exactly the same moment.

At age 4, dreams have no limits! When a community helper like a firefighter, nurse, or police officer visits Sherwood, our classrooms light up with excitement. Behind the big smiles lies a powerful lesson: learning about service shows our children that helping others is one of the most rewarding things in life.

The school bell rings at 3. Your meeting runs until 5. And somewhere in between, you need to know your child is somewhere safe not just supervised.

At Sherwood in Coral Springs, After School it’s the same teachers your child already knows by name. The same space where they feel comfortable and settled. The same warm environment, just later in the day.

You just get to stay at work without the knot in your stomach. We’re open until 6:30pm because real schedules don’t follow a school bell.

Keeping our beautiful bilingual community fresh and happy! 💦☀️

Before we share how we care for your children at school, here are 4 general tips to protect your little ones at home during these intense heatwaves:

1. Hydration first: Keep their personal water bottles filled and accessible at their height so they can drink independently.

2. Lightweight clothing: Opt for breathable, light-colored cotton fabrics.

3. Shaded play: Limit outdoor exposure between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, choosing shaded or indoor spaces instead.

4. Cool snacks: Offer water-rich fruits like watermelon or cucumber slices.

Our kids have one common language today: staying fresh!

With the local heatwaves, our priority is ensuring active learning stays completely safe. We are utilizing our very wide, spacious backyard only during the early morning hours, and moving our enrichment activities inside our cool classrooms for the rest of the day. 🎨🏃‍♂️

Week one, they sit quietly.
Eyes on their food.
Maybe a sideways glance at the kid next to them.

Week two, someone offers a cracker.
Someone accepts.
A negotiation begins over the last strawberry that neither of them is willing to fully give up.

Week three, they’re saving a seat.

Nobody taught them that.
Nobody planned it.
It just happened, the way real friendships always do.

The lunch table doesn’t look like a classroom.
But at Sherwood, we know it’s one of the most important parts of the day.

It’s where they practice sharing without being told to.
Where they learn to read a face, is she upset or just hungry?

Where they figure out that the boy who seemed scary on day one is actually really funny.

Socialization isn’t a class you teach.
It’s a table you set, and then get out of the way.

We’ve been setting that table in Coral Springs for years.
And we never get tired of watching what happens around it.
