When discipleship is not the focus of ministry
When discipleship is not the focus of ministry, the church DIES and apostacy is the thriving crop. The Ephesus church of Revelation is the church model of today. Why has the church left it's first love? It is becoming exponentially evident that church leaders have altered the recipe or thrown away the instruction book? Have they decided that apathy and the full counsel of God inappropriate for today’s church attenders? Are they substituting truth with alternate ingredients? Is just 80% Jesus enough for an adequate recipe to maintain a semblance suitable to a "biblical" church? After all, who will know since discipleship had not or does not adhere to the original recipe. Consider the following:
The Story of the Pot Roast
A young woman was hosting a dinner party for her friends and served a delicious pot roast. One of her friends enjoyed it so much that she asked for the recipe, and the young woman wrote it down for her.
Upon looking over the recipe, her friend inquired, “Why do you cut both ends off the roast before it is prepared and put in the pan?” The young woman replied, “I don’t know. I cut the ends off because I learned this recipe from my mom and that was the way she had always done it.”
Her friend’s question got the young woman thinking and so the next day she called her mom to ask her: “Mom, when we make the pot roast, why do we cut off and discard the ends before we set it in the pan and season it?” Her mom quickly replied, “That is how your grandma always did it and I learned the recipe from her.”
Now the young woman was really curious, so she called her elderly grandma and asked her the same question: “Grandma, I often make the pot roast recipe that I learned from mom and she learned from you. Why do you cut the ends off the roast before you prepare it?”
The grandmother thought for a while, since it had been years since she made the roast herself, and then replied, “I cut them off because the roast was always bigger than the pan I had back then. I had to cut the ends off to make it fit.”
I love this story because I think this is true for so many of the things we do in life. We have been doing them for so long that we rarely stop and question the rationality behind them anymore.
The church is much like the ladies cooking the Sunday roast. They take the original hunk of meat and cut off the ends so it fits in the pan. The meat is the word of God and the pan is the culture of the church. The whole piece of the meat will not fit inside the pan because the pan is too small so the whole chunk of meat, the Word of God, is cut to fit the pan, the mold of today’s church. Revelation 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’

HERE YOU GO

An atheist once complained that it was unfair for Christians and Jews to have recognized holy days while atheists had none. Determined to fight this “discrimination,” he hired a lawyer and took the case to court.
The lawyer passionately argued, “Your Honor, Christians have Christmas and Easter, Jews have Passover and Yom Kippur, but my client and other atheists have no such holidays. This is unjust!”
The judge listened carefully, then leaned forward and said, “But atheists do have a day of recognition.”
Surprised, the lawyer asked, “We do? What day is that?”
The judge smiled and said, “April 1st—April Fools’ Day. As Psalm 14:1 says, ‘The fool says in his heart, there is no God.’ Case dismissed!”
Happy April 1st!

Live boldly, with Grace, because you are proud you are a true Christian and worry not what anyone else thinks.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God 1 Corinthians 1:18.

DO WE TAKE GOD TOO SERIOUS

Do not fear standing Firm and Bold to proclaim the truth of God’s word and His Son the Word, Jesus Christ in utter unshakeable seriousness. Or do you rather backpedal as you fear a possible repercussion or persecution? When we deny Christ, He Himself says He will deny us. Matthew 10:33
“But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven”.

For shame! Shame on and to us. This statement should invoke fear when any one of us lack of seriousness in our attitude about the one and only TRUE God.
To be serious is to consider the subject as Important; Weighty; not insignificant, really owning what is said; in earnest; not jocular or deceivingly.

However, to not consider a subject matter seriously, we consider the proposition as
Trivial insignificant unimportant frivolous immaterial inappreciable incidental inconsequential ignorable irrelevant paltry petty secondary superficial trite worthless flippant

Of these antonyms, let’s consider the last one on the list first; Flippant. To judge as flippant or to be flippant in attitude is: Showing disrespect through a casual attitude, levity, and a lack of due seriousness. To be flippant about God is to call judgement upon yourself. This then begs the question. HOW do we take God so serious that many would say “You take God too serious!”

Being Serious in Our Witness
Our witness as Christians reflects our seriousness about our faith. It is crucial that we represent Christ authentically in our words and actions so that others may come to know Him through us. When we take our witness seriously, we’re not just living for ourselves; we’re living out a testimony that can inspire others. Together, we can create a powerful impact in our communities and beyond, showcasing the love and grace of God.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” – 1 Peter 3:15

Being Serious in Worship
Worship is a vital expression of our love for God, and being serious in worship means engaging our whole being in adoration. Through worship, we connect our hearts and minds and join together to exalt His name. This seriousness also prompts us to approach God with respect and gratitude, ensuring that every moment spent in worship is genuine and meaningful. Let us come together in a spirit of reverence, celebrating God’s greatness!

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1

Being Serious in Service
Service is a fundamental part of our Christian walk. Being serious in service means recognizing the needs of those around us and taking action. It challenges us to step outside our comfort zones and lend a helping hand to others. When we serve with a serious heart, we’re reflecting Jesus’s love and purpose in our lives. Together, we can work towards making a difference in our community, serving others as Christ has served us.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” – Galatians 5:13

“Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” – Philippians 2:4

BE A SERIOUS FOLLOWER OF CHRIST

01/25/2026

Good morning. As the inclement weather has caused a slight hold in the gathering of the Saints at Living Hope, we rejoice that even in adverse weather, God is still on His throne. I pray that all the body of Christ are warm and have not lost electricity as many in the nation have in the last couple of days. As we indulge in our quiet time today, let us meditate that not only is our Redeemer still on the throne, He is still sovereign. Meteorologists have a problem with predicting what God’s hand is doing in the weather; God allowed them to get this one close to right. Why do we say “God allowed”? Simple. God still controls all aspects of our meteorological conditions.
Psalm 135:7: “He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries.
Nahum 1:3 The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet.
• Amos 4:7 – God withholds rain in one area and gives it in another to fulfill His purposes.
In our humanness, our first response to any adversity is to grumble, become disheartened because things didn’t go the way we thought they should, and maybe want to shake our fist in the face of God. God is still on the throne and has us in the palm of His hand. He works all things to His glory. The writer of Hebrews (Paul) tells us in Hebrews 13:20-22
“20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
22 And I appeal to you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words.”
Take solace in the truth of His word. He still works all things to the good of those who love Him and are called for His purpose. We should be going to the Lord being thankful for all things, giving Him Glory and asking Him for a glimpse of how He will glorify Himself in any and all situations. Grace upon Grace.
