🌟 Intern Spotlight: Noah🌟

This week, we're shining the spotlight on Noah!

During his first rotation in Environmental Services, Noah has been learning just how much goes into keeping NCKMC clean, safe, and welcoming. His responsibilities take him throughout the hospital, where he's gaining hands-on experience while building skills like following a schedule, managing his time, paying attention to details, and recognizing what needs to be done.

Noah has also had opportunities to step outside his regular internship duties and lend a hand around NCKMC, including helping the NCKMC Volunteers serve ice cream.

One thing we've learned about Noah is that he likes to stay busy and be helpful. Whether he's completing his regular EVS responsibilities or pitching in with something extra, each experience helps him build the skills and confidence he'll take into future employment.

We're excited to see what the rest of Rotation 1 brings for Noah!💙

🌟 Internship Check-In: Katana 🌟
One week into her first internship rotation, Katana is already learning that the workplace is about much more than completing a task-it's also about growing in confidence, communication, and independence.

Katana shared that one of her favorite parts of her internship has been meeting new people. During her time in Rehab and throughout the hospital, she has learned new skills, including properly cleaning IV poles, resetting exam rooms, and completing other tasks. She says she now feels confident completing IV poles and pumps on her own. 💪

Katana has also been working on recognizing social cues and workplace conversations. Being around more people has given her opportunities to practice when to join a conversation, how to interact with coworkers, and how to recognize when a conversation may be getting off topic. Those everyday experiences are an important part of learning what it means to be a successful employee.

When asked what makes a good employee, Katan had a simple but important answer: "Dependable."

And something she's especially proud of? Giving blood during the hospital blood drive! ❤️

Her advice for someone beginning their first internship is another good reminder for all of us: "Be patient."

We're excited to keep watching Katana build her skills, confidence, and independence throughout her first rotation!

🌟Intern Spotlight: Katana🌟
This week, we're shining the spotlight on Katana!

Katana is currently completing her first internship rotation in the Rehabilitation Department at North Central Kansas Medical Center.
During her time in Rehab, she helps clean and prepare rehabilitation equipment so it is ready for patients.

In the afternoons, Katana takes on an additional responsibility-cleaning IV poles and pumps throughout the hospital. This gives her the opportunity to work in different areas of the hospital while practicing independence, following procedures, and paying attention to detail.

And Katana did a little something extra this week! She rolled up her sleeve and donated blood during the hospital's blood drive. ❤️🩸

From learning new job tasks to becoming more independent in the workplace-and even giving back along the way-Katana is off to a great start in her first rotation!

Way to go, Katana! 👏

Learning by Doing 💙

It's been a busy week at NCKMC Project SEARCH! Our interns have been building workplace skills through hands-on experiences throughout the hospital.

This week included CPR and First Aid training, where interns practiced skills that can make a difference in an emergency. They also helped assemble packets for this year's Steering Committee members, putting organization, attention to detail, and teamwork into practice.

And just like any workplace, there are jobs that happen behind the scenes! Interns worked together to clean and reset our Project SEARCH Training Room, learning that caring for a shared workspace is part of being a dependable employee.

Each task may look a little different, but they all build workplace skills that matter: responsibility, teamwork, organization, safety, and independence.

We're learning that sometimes the best lessons happen when we roll up our sleeves and get to work! 💙

Learning Together, Growing Together 💙

On Monday, the NCKMC Project SEARCH interns joined the Salina Regional Health Center Project SEARCH program for a day of orientation and learning!

Throughout the day, interns had the opportunity to learn more about workplace expectations, employee health, corporate compliance, and what it means to be part of a professional workplace.

We loved connecting with another Project SEARCH program, meeting fellow interns, and starting to build skills that will help everyone prepare for a successful year ahead.

A great day of learning, connecting, and getting ready for what's ahead!

Plan. Communicate. Problem-Solve. Build. 💙

Our Project SEARCH interns put their workplace skills into action with a Team Building Challenge!

Working together, they had to make a plan, communicate their ideas, problem-solve when things didn't go as expected, and keep working toward a goal.

It may look like cups, straws, and a few simple supplies- but it's really about building skills for the workplace.
