Our parent and family volunteers make such a difference! There are several ways to volunteer at TMSA Charlotte Concord, and the type of opportunity determines whether a comprehensive background check is required.
👩🏫 TEACHER/STAFF-SUPERVISED VOLUNTEERING
If you are volunteering under the direct supervision of a teacher or staff member, you DO NOT need to complete a comprehensive background check.
Opportunities may include:
🍎 Assisting with a classroom activity
🎨 Helping with a special classroom project
🍎 Having lunch with your child
🎉 Participating in a school event where a teacher or staff member remains present and directly supervises volunteers and students
🔎 VOLUNTEERING REQUIRING A COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK
If you would like to volunteer in a role that involves working more independently with students or being in an area without direct teacher/staff supervision, you WILL need to complete a comprehensive background check.
Once completed and approved, your background check is good for ONE CALENDAR YEAR from the completion date! 🙌
These opportunities may include:
📚 Working at the Book Fair
🚌 Participating in overnight field trips
⚾ Coaching athletic clubs or games
🍕 Volunteering during Parents’ Night Out
✏️ Tutoring or working with students in the hallway
🤝 Providing support to students outside of direct teacher supervision
🦁 Other volunteer opportunities where independent interaction with students may occur
💛 WHY VOLUNTEER?
We encourage our families to think of the $25 background check fee as an investment in your child’s future.
When your child sees you volunteering at their school, they see firsthand that their education matters to you. Whether you give one hour at the Book Fair, help us during Parents’ Night Out, coach a club, tutor a student, or simply lend a helping hand—your involvement matters. ❤️
It sends a pretty powerful message:
“Your education is important to me, and I am proud to be part of your school community.”
