Hi all,
Alex here.
First, I want to share my appreciation for all of you who follow this page. I know I haven’t been the best at keeping up with it, or really about fully realizing the potential of the space we’ve created at Firebird Garden.
However, I recognize that my work, along with that of many volunteers these past 4 seasons have done a lot of good: enriching the soil, providing food to the community (human and non-), and maybe a space of solace and learning for folks.
I’ve been managing the space pretty much alone since 2017, but I am now moving to Colorado at the end of the month. Myself and some volunteers have been busy this summer converting the vegetable patch into a fully perennial garden, where our hardy strawberry and raspberry plants can hopefully thrive with minimal maintenance for the future.
I am looking for someone, preferably a Franklinton neighbor, who is interested in cultivating these crops in my absence. If you or someone you know might be interested, please reach out. I’ll happily pass on my knowledge of maintenance, along with tools and resources in the effort to give this place some longevity.
In growing love,
-Alex

The strawberries are really responding to the rain, with new blooms!

Thanks to Mission Coffee Co for collecting grounds for our compost!!!
The process of making coffee leaches most of the acidity of the grounds, leaving a tasty snack that worms, bugs, and bacteria can’t wait to transform!
