Using a light table with toy animals is a wonderful way for children to explore and learn. This activity helps with developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive development. It’s PUMPKIN Season!

During pumpkin exploration, children in out preschool are discovering that pumpkins come in many shapes, sizes, textures, and colors, depending on their seeds and growing conditions. As they touched the smooth skin, bumpy surface, and rough stem, they built vocabulary to describe different textures. Cutting open pumpkins helps them practice safe tool use and learn how tools differ in sharpness. The children also explored their sense of smell, noticing scents they compared to fruits—or sometimes calling them “gross”! Through hands-on experiences like this, children practice observation, comparison, and safe experimentation while learning more about the natural world around them.
