The Tales from the Classroom Project:
What began as an idea has turned into a movement. For some time now public schools in America, and the people who work within them, have been under attack. The attack comes from negative media attention, politicians, and public policies aimed at punitive measures to fix the "Nation at Risk" and that were "Leaving Children Behind." The Tales from the Classroom

Team is made up of former and current K-12 public school teachers and scholars who spend countless hours in public schools across the nation who believe that public schools not the cesspools they are portrayed to be.

So we decided to put our time and money where our mouthes are to address the state of American public schools. Through our blog, social media platforms, speaking engagements, and educational consulting services, our team of educational scholars will examine elementary, middle, and high schools in rural, suburban, and urban districts across the United States with the aim of improving schools for students, educators, and families. Through the blog, social media, and our forthcoming book Tales from the Classroom: How Education Policy Really Affects Our Schools, we seek to get you inside the world of education while offering visions for improvement. Through our consulting work, we aim to work with K-12 schools to help them achieve their goals and aspirations, drawing on the unique expertise of our large network of accomplished educational experts to meet the specific needs of schools and districts. Together we bring the strength of scholarship to inform the power of practice.

Exciting news! Capital University's School of Education has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education for a program to address the teacher shortage in grades K-12. The Capital City Teacher Residency Program (CCTR) is a two-year licensure program offered in partnership with Columbus State Community College and Columbus City Schools. The goal is to increase diversity and grow the number of qualified, licensed classroom teachers in the CCS district. Let's celebrate this innovative program that will help address the teacher shortage in Ohio!

Pretty nice job by CNN summing up why people don’t want to be teachers or are quitting the profession:

“The pandemic exacerbated the existing problems. Fears of catching Covid-19 and enforcing pandemic protocols are additions to the long list of challenges teachers face daily -- from low pay and often little regard from their communities, to growing numbers of school shootings and legislative requirements about what and how to teach. Many educators have walked away in recent years and amid a dire shortage, few people want to fill their spots.”

Time is long past for change, elevating the teaching profession in society, treating teachers like professionals, actually doing something about school gun violence that doesn’t involve arming educators, giving teachers more curricular freedom, and paying them like they are of value to this society. The time is now!
