The Ohio State Judo club is the oldest club at OSU, 66 years - since 1958!
Founded and led for decades by George Funakoshi, then later for a few more decades by Virgil Goodwine. When Virgil passed in 2018, Jorn Kaevel took over as head coach for the past 6 years. Jorn moved back to Germany this summer, so I have assumed the role of head coach. I am humbled, as I know I am in the shadow of my predecessors. But I will do my best to keep the OSU Judo club legacy alive!
Photo today is from our main fall recruitment event, the student involvement fair.

Great Friday eve judo practice; lots of randori - Virgil would be proud! Mostly us old-timers, as the students are away for summer break.

It is with great sadness to share the news that Sensei Virgil Goodwine, head coach of the OSU Judo Club for many years, passed away yesterday. He was a coach, mentor, and friend to many. He was a great man and he will be missed. Our deepest condolences to his family.
