Register NOW for the Women In American Democracy conference on Monday, March 7 from 9AM to 4:45PM (info at u.osu.edu/democracystudies/womeninamericandemocracy).
Inspired by the possibility that the nation may have, in 2016 and for the first time in history, a woman presidential nominee of a major political party, we are gathering to talk about women’s indelible and enduring imprint on American democracy and its institutions, and how women will continue to influence democracy’s transformation into the future.
The conference includes an interdisciplinary group of political scientists, historians, lawyers, journalists, activists, and elected officials. Morning sessions focus on women’s contributions to the development of American democracy thus far, highlighting the history of women in American Democracy, and on the stories of women leaders in Ohio. Afternoon sessions turn the spotlight to the future of women in American democracy, focusing on institutional factors that influence women’s inclusion in politics and governing (gender, race) and gender dynamics in campaigns.
The conference is an interdisciplinary collaboration supported by the Democracy Studies program, a nonpartisan, interdisciplinary program dedicated to enhancing the American people’s understanding of their own self-government. Through research, teaching, and community engagement, the Democracy Studies program supports thoughtful inquiry into issues relating to the institutions, processes, and norms of a healthy democratic society.
