Alexys Cochran - 2012 Recipient, Bob Nunnery Memorial Scholarship
My name is Alexys Cochran and I was born and raised in Colorado! I have lived in the Northglenn/Thornton area for ten years now, I moved from North Mor elementary to Huron Middle and graduated from Northglenn High-school which will always hold my greatest memories. I have one younger sister, Taylor, who is nothing like me, and that makes me love her so much more. The two of us were raised by my mother Vicki, and she has been amazing to the both of us. My father passed away when I was 8 years old. Although many people would see this as a permanent set-back in life, it motivated me more than ever to keep going and to be stronger.
While enrolled at Northglenn High School I had many accomplishments. Student Council was a huge part of my success. I was junior class Vice President and All Class Sgt. of Arms I was also lucky enough to be chosen to go to Nationals for StuCo my sophomore year. I was also a cheerleader. My junior year I was cheerleading officer and my senior year I was elected as Head Cheerleading Captain and made the All American team at cheerleading camp.
I am now heading off to Greeley to be a BEAR at the University of Northern Colorado, although I am still undeclared I will most likely be pursuing Sociology!
I couldn't be more excited to see what my future has in store for me!

Alejandro Jimenez - 2012 Recipient, Bob Nunnery Memorial Scholarship
My name is Alejandro Jimenez and I immigrated to the United States with my parents in 1999. We came to a foreign country together with nothing except the hope to live the American dream.
Since that time, we have managed through many struggles by always sticking together and always taking care of one another. My parents work countless hours at multiple jobs to support me and my siblings and make sure there is a roof over our heads and food on the table.
Though it has been challenging, my upbringing has had a huge impact on my life. I have learned to work hard in school and doing so has allowed me to excel. My senior year I finished 16th of 392 students in my class with a cumulative GPA of 3.915. I have been on the Honor Roll all four years and am also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. Throughout my four years I excelled in football, basketball and track while also being the Social Studies Student of the Year in both 2009 and 2010. I also received the Principal Excellence Award and other scholarships including the Hispanic Advisory Council Scholarship and Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award.
Today I have the opportunity to be the first in my family to go to college and repay my parents for everything they have done for me and my younger siblings. I have been accepted to both Regis and Denver Universities where I plan to be successful by receiving my Bachelors Degree. Then, if I have enough money, I hope to stay in school for three more years to study law. By doing this I will ensure myself and my family a better life. I will be able to tell my parents that the will never again have to work multiple jobs, never be worried about finding work and never worry about paying our bills. They will be able to grow old and be proud of their son.
