Our Lower School staff kept our students guessing with a secret spirit week! 🤫 On Monday, it was black-out day ("Ms. Herren, are all the teachers going to a funeral after school?" 🤔) , Tuesday was hat day, Wednesday had everyone rocking flannel, yesterday was denim day, and today we wrapped up with college sweatshirt day! Students were full of questions all week, so the big reveal came yesterday in chapel. A huge thank you to our amazing staff for being such great sports and going all in—your enthusiasm and participation made this week so much fun! 🎉🙌

Our fourth graders reflected on perseverance and innovation after reading "Steamboat School"—the true story of a teacher who, when faced with discriminatory laws banning Black students from education, moved his school onto a steamboat in the middle of the Mississippi River where state laws don't apply, so students could keep learning.

Inspired by the book, our students became steamboat engineers, designing and testing their own balloon-powered boats. After timed trials, the longest-floating boats advanced to a final competition.

This project, along with many others throughout the school, was one of the ways our teachers highlighted Black History Month. We love how this hands-on project helped bring Black history—and the power of determination—to life!

Mr. Ferrier brought his denim A-game for our staff’s secret spirit day in chapel this morning! He shared with our K-2 students about the beauty of the Bible—reminding them that while the world is full of beautiful things, no story is more beautiful than God’s Word.

Meanwhile, our 3rd-6th grade students are diving into research for the Great Commission Campaign. They’re exploring organizations that serve as the hands and feet of Jesus—both around the world and right here at home—as they prepare their presentations.

Our science teachers are incredible at bringing learning to life with hands-on labs! Ms. Burns and Ms. Stimmel’s physics students recently put their knowledge to the test by designing and building their own roller coasters, exploring concepts like energy, motion, and centripetal/centrifugal forces in the process. Nothing beats applying physics to a physical-world challenge! 🎢

Our 5th-grade math enrichment students put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test by designing their own board games! The best part? They took their games into our kindergarten classrooms and played them together! It was a great opportunity for our older students to apply their math knowledge in a creative way while engaging with younger learners. Well done, 5th graders!

We recently had the privilege of welcoming Ohio State Senator Andrew Brenner, Chair of the Senate Education Committee, to WC for a tour of our Upper School! As part of School Choice Week, our students wrote about what they love most about WC, and our parents wrote heartfelt letters about the impact of school choice. We were honored to present these to Senator Brenner to share with his colleagues.

WC is incredibly thankful for the opportunities that Ohio’s EdChoice program provides. Thank you, Senator Brenner, for taking the time to visit and hear our stories!
