Going to a movie theater with friends or a date has always been one of the top entertainment options for students (outside of school-sponsored events). Of those in the photograph below, only the Crump has survived!
Remember going to the movies with a friend or a date when you were a Bull Dog student? You could buy a ticket, popcorn and a soda for less than $5 per person.
Today, standard movie tickets typically cost between $12 and $16, though prices range from $8 to $23 depending on your location, the time of day, and theater formats like IMAX or 3D. With popcorn and a drink, it would cost nearly $25+ per person! Matinee showtimes (before 4:00 PM) are really the only “affordable" option for kids.
Imagine being a parent with three kids who want to see an evening movie...it would cost $75+!
You gotta feel for the younger generation. They will never know the joy of catching a movie on a hot summer day for less than $5, snacks included!
