Teaching the everyday woman how to identify + heal from unhealthy emotional patterns with self and others

06/04/2024

As we step into June, this month I'll be focusing on Women in Leadership and the importance of women taking care of their mental health in leadership roles. 🌟

Leadership can be incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with its own set of challenges, especially for women. This month, I have the honor of speaking at several amazing events where I'll be diving into these topics and sharing valuable insights:

šŸ“… June 18: Speaking at the UW-Madison Women in Leadership Symposium, where I'll discuss strategies for women leaders to prioritize their mental health while excelling in their careers.

šŸ“… June 20: Presenting at HRCI, focusing on the mental health of HR professionals and why it’s crucial for them to maintain their well-being as they support their organizations.

In addition to these engagements, I'll also be highlighting:
šŸŒž The First Day of Summer (June 20): Exploring why it’s important to take care of your mental health during the summer months.
🌱 Juneteenth (June 19): Reflecting on the significance of this holiday and how to maintain mental wellness.

🧠 National PTSD Awareness Month: Providing information and resources to support those affected by PTSD.

Let’s empower each other to lead with strength and take care of our mental health. šŸŽ‰

I’m late. But it’s worth the wait.

It's Thanksgiving and episode features Dr Terah Henderson who is a Bahamian living and thriving in the US, a , author, professor...wife and mom. , y'all.

One of her life's mantras is "another chance" and I think it is ever so fitting for a day which is celebrated in the US as a day to pause and be grateful. Regardless of how bad this year, this month, this week has been, you are alive and because of this, you have another chance to do (or go after) whatever it is that your soul longs for. More importantly, because of the completed work of the cross, every time we fall short, we have another chance...

Alright…check-in time.
Where we at with those vision board party goals šŸ‘€
Hit a brick wall?
Feeling less motivated?
Better yet…which of these have you said in the past few months?

šŸ˜£ā€œI don’t even know where to startā€
šŸ˜©ā€œI can’t add another thing to my listā€
šŸ¤ššŸ¾ā€œChile…I already got a lot of stuff going on…I don’t have time for all of thatā€
šŸ„“ā€œI got the same old goalsā€

If you are like me, I like to know the benefits of something before buying into yet ā€œanother thingā€.

So I put together a quick list to show you a few benefits of having a little Sunday goal setting time. It doesn’t have to be long and drawn out…just intentional. Here’s a few benefits to address each of those sayings-

ā€œI don’t even know where to startā€ āž”ļø Get unstuck

ā€œI can’t add another thing to my listā€ āž”ļø Prioritize yourself and your goals

ā€œChile…I already got a lot of stuff going on…I don’t have time for all of thatā€ āž”ļø Move from feeling overwhelmed to being organized

ā€œI got the same old goalsā€ āž”ļø Move from doing ā€œwhat you always doā€, when ā€œwhat you always doā€...is not working.

So, what are your top 3 goals for this week?
Let’s get started.

06/08/2021

When I hear ā€œyou never askedā€, this is what I hear between the lines: ā€œI’m sorry Terah but you were so consumed with your life and the ins and outs of it that I was not a priority to you. I just thought you didn’t care.ā€

Dissecting honestly, this might be for you if you’re the type of friend who has that go-to friend—your strong friend who may have initially set a boundary (time, topic, or emotional boundary) but you choose to violate that boundary time and time again or simply put, disregard it. I mean, why would you need to respect a boundary that’s ā€œflexibleā€? šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļøšŸ‘€

Or maybe you found yourself calling this friend to only ask ā€œhow are youā€ in the last 3 minutes of your call. Chances are, that friend doesn’t have the brain power to condense recent life events into 180 seconds—-tick, tick...ok bye girl!

See the thing is we can change the narrative to dismantle the cyclical spin of imbalanced friendships and here’s how (I’ll give you a head-start with two)

āž”ļøBlab too much? Listen. Practice it first in moments that are purely conversational and not drenched in heated emotion.
āž”ļøDon’t care enough to ask? Ask open-ended questions, not questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no response. Start small by challenging yourself to go a little beneath the surface. Example: ā€œDid you have fun at the event?ā€ Yes. vs. ā€œTell me about your experience at such and such...ā€
āž”ļø Acknowledge, give space for, and honor your friends’ boundaries. Boundaries can be healthy and aid in the longevity of your friendships. We just need to see them as that and not purely restrictive in nature. Boundaries light the path to creating and cultivating healthy relationships.

You see, Life is so intricately woven with ins and outs.
Grips and not so smooth releases.
Fights to live vs. merely existing.
Love received vs. pushing past the perceived drudgery of patience.

So let the sting of the last ā€œyou never askedā€ remind you that it’s pure beauty to honor each other’s boundaries.

🪓 Has there been a time when a friend set a boundary with you and you overlooked it?
🪓 Or maybe you were the one setting the boundary and it was totally disregarded?
