Bulldog Nation:
The Columbus City School will be hosting a "Community Engagement" session at South High School this coming MONDAY, OCTOBER 27TH. Doors will open at 5:00pm and the session will begin at 6:00pm.
It is imperative that all able-bodied "Dawgs" show up in force to this first session at our beloved South High School. We need to drive the point home that South's 125-year existence cannot be extinguished. South High was the 4th high school opened in Columbus in 1900. The Columbus City Schools performed extensive remodeling of South from 2009-2010 and spent over $30 million to keep those doors open. We need to attend Monday's "Engagement" to assure the Board that the money was well spent, greatly appreciated, and that our history must live on.
There is again the rumor that a movement is afoot to convert South High to a middle school and send their upper classes to Marion-Franklin. Marion-Franklin? Are they crazy? Marion-Franklin was built in 1953, and the building is showing extensive wear after 72 years. Marion-Franklin's current enrollment is only 450 compared to South's 902. South has the capacity to absorb all of the current Marion-Franklin students.
The Columbus City Schools is struggling to find ways to cut $50 million from next year's budget. I urge your support in guaranteeing that South High does not play a part of any draconian budget ax.
I hope to see many of you supporting South High Monday evening.
