Advice for parents from a real teacher

Here's a cool way to practice multiplication facts with your kids. Play WAR (the card game) but change the rules up a little bit. First take all of the face cards out. Then, instead of the player with the highest card taking the match, the first person to give the answer to the two cards multiplied gets the match. So if you have a 2 and your child has a 5, the first person to say "10!" wins. Give it a try! Kids love it! :-)

Once you've identified your children's reading level, (see assessment on previous post) find books that are just below their level to build confidence. Slowly ease them into books ON their level and move progressively to books above their level. This is one simple way to increase reading levels. :-) Enjoy!
