The drought in Somalia is worsening while the pockets of political leaders are getting fatter. Students are waiting for food, until the eventually die of starvation. Students like Kafiya’s twin sisters, Ebla and Abdia, were left to die in refugee camps that provide no water or food. How do we expect children to travel to another city to take standardized exams without basic necessities and sustenance? US Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, and the United States ambassador to Somalia, Larry Andre JR, should look into these atrocities young somali students are facing during this extremely difficult drought and hunger crisis.
