When you are an elected official, so-called protestors aren't "vandals", they are CONSTITUENTS.

It's a fascist message to argue that constituents shouldn't get to have a voice. I don't care what your political party is. In the U.S., speaking up is a bedrock of our political system.

If you don't want to hear from constituents, don't run for office. And if you are elected and don't want to listen, resign.

Everybody needs this reminder today. Start right where you are. Attend the rally, or call your representative, or post online, or talk to your colleague. Be the change, even when you have to start small. Don't wait.

Looking back at my career in university fundraising, I can see now how many times I heard racist comments and just let people get away with it. It felt awful in my gut, and I just didn't know how my silence was violence. I truly didn't have the knowledge or skill or confidence to interrupt the harm. I'm not making excuses. I truly regret it.

And I know the racism I let continue harmed me and the people around me. And it also harmed my profession and the institutions I worked for.

So today, I'm thinking about some of the other professions & institutions that are also harmed by racism every day.

A pause in the fighting is good news indeed. And I am sickened at how much of news reports in the U.S. centers the "excruciating" work of the diplomats.

Just so we're straight on this, the spin is that we are supposed to congratulate these people for taking over 6 weeks to figure out how to do their most basic of jobs: protect human lives. While 6,000 children have died because of their agonizingly slow diplomacy.

The deaths of these children are on their hands.

How much faster would this have gone if, instead of making phone calls, the U.S. had cut off funding to the Israeli government? Money talks a lot louder than words.

The U.S. must do better. We must stop funding genocide, period.

And We the People most definitely need to learn to think critically and dig deeper than the headlines. These diplomats and elected officials have a lot of blood on their hands. We must not forget this.

3 years ago, I created a deck of IG slides about Thanksgiving.

This year, I decided to revisit those slides and update just a little.

I generally believe that there is always an opportunity to learn and grow.

And so, I offer you these slides, again, about the legacy of Thanksgiving (or as I call it Thankstaking) and guidance on supporting Indigenous Peoples.

This year, I ask that you tell OUR stories of victory and resilience.
