📚 September is Attendance Awareness Month! 🎒

MCSD schools are celebrating the importance of showing up, staying engaged, and making every school day count!

Did you know? Chronic absenteeism is generally defined as missing 10% or more of the school year for any reason, including excused or unexcused absences. That’s approximately 18 days in a 180-day school year.

Every day matters. Every lesson matters. Attendance matters! 💙💛

A huge THANK YOU to Columbus Botanical Garden for coming out to Dimon on Friday, August 21, to support our 2nd Grade students as they participated in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census! 🐝🦋🌼

Through the Pollinator Pals Program, our students continue to learn about the important role pollinators play in our environment while collecting real-world data and contributing to citizen science.

We are so grateful for our continued partnership with Columbus Botanical Garden and for the many years they have invested in providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for our students. Thank you for continuing to help Dimon grow! 🌱💚

We were thrilled to be invited to the Muscogee County School District board meeting tonight to give the pledge, character word of the month, and share the things that make Dimon great! Our students did an amazing job highlighting the wonderful things happening at Dimon. Thank you Melody, Richard, Dominic, Ellie, Eva, Regina, and Aiden for representing Dimon on this special night. A special thanks goes out to our former Dolphin, Regina, for joining to share what fifth grade accomplished last year. Once a Dolphin, always a Dolphin! 🐬 We are so proud of these students, and of all of our Dolphins for the hard work they put in every day and the way they always strive for excellence! We were also grateful to Dr. Pam Wetherington for sharing the Year 1 PDLS highlights with the board, and a look ahead at the excitement of Year 2! It sure is great to be a Dimon Dolphin!

It’s been a great first week! Students have gotten into the routine already, and have been having fun learning! 5th grade students in Ms. Wilbourn’s science class are practicing how to implement the Scientific Method. How many drops of water will fit on a penny?? What are your guesses?💧

At the beginning of each year, it is such a powerful experience sitting in a quiet, dark hallway, reflecting on the year to come. Tomorrow morning, these walls will be filled with excitement, a few nerves, and the sweet voices of children reconnecting with friends and forming new classroom families.

But today, the possibilities are endless. The hopes and dreams of students and families are yet to be realized, and the journey is almost underway. Our staff has been working so hard to prepare for each one of our precious students in order to help them meet their goals and have the most incredible year yet.

And yet, the halls tonight are still quiet. The anticipation of the coming year is palpable and expectations are high. We are planning so many amazing experiences for our students and we cannot wait to bring our vision to life, trusting the magic that will come with this beautiful beginning.

Tonight we will dream, hope, and believe, and then tomorrow we get to work!

There are many things that make our school special, but one of the best things about Dimon is our community. A community of families, faculty, and partners that all come together to love our students and make a difference in their lives. Nothing is a better example of that than last night’s Back to School Bash!

We had so many people show up for our Dolphins! We are so thankful for the support of district staff, including Muscogee County Superintendent, Dr. David Lewis, and our Region Chief, Mr. Marty Richburg. This event could not take place without Columbus State University and the College of Education and Health Professions. We are beyond thankful for CSU’s President, Dr. Stuart Rayfield, Dean of the COEHP, Margie Yates, and the numerous faculty that attended. Their partnership with Dimon is a phenomenal blessing that helps us reach beyond our dreams and imagine greater things that we ever knew possible!

One HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT was revealed last night as well! The Miracle Riders presented Dimon with a $10,000 donation that will be used to expand our PDLS partnership and provide even more health and wellness services to our families! What an amazing commitment to Dimon and to our vision of what the future holds! Thank you Ride for Miracles for loving our students as much as we do!

Thank you also to the many organizations that were with us at the Bash! We had Cody the Cougar, Columbus Technical College, Oxbow Meadows, Columbus State University's Coca-Cola Space Science Center, the Food Mill, Chattahoochee Valley Libraries, the Sheriff’s department and gaming truck, Georgia Power, free food for all, giveaways, lots of food trucks, and more! Your generosity and encouragement mean so much!

But the biggest “thank you” of all goes to our Dimon families! You are the reason for what we do and our greatest joy is to pour into the lives of your children and play a part in their futures. We have the best Pod in the world, and we are thankful that you entrust your greatest blessings to us each day. Your support and partnership make the biggest impact in the success of Dimon!

It sure is great to be a Dimon Dolphin! 🐬
