Being neurodivergent is not a crime. Being LGBTQ+ is not a crime. Being a person of color is not a crime. Being a strong female is not a crime. Not fitting pre-fitted boxes is not a crime.
Your child's mind is beautiful. It makes them unique, precious, and unjaded by the chaos and pain of the world. Our job as parents isn't to tell them they are bad for not fitting in a certain box. Our job is to love them for who they are, teach them how to handle their emotions and thoughts in a constructive manner, and teach them to be both kind to others and to themselves.

Regardless of who they choose to be, I never want to destroy trust with my boys and make them feel like they can't come and talk to me. I never want to make them feel unaccepted for who they are, and I never want them to think they have to control the bodies and minds of others in order to feel accepted in this world.

Be your child's first advocate by accepting them for who they are, and they will always cherish you for the love you've shown them.

But it also brings a feeling of sadness when I look at it now; a sadness around the state of our politics; that the people who spend their lives fighting FOR the people are often stifled and hindered by the people fighting for the privileged few.

I truly believe that our only way forward longterm as a collective is to start taking people like Bernie more seriously, and to start rolling up our sleeves and helping the majority, and getting up off of our knees for the wealthy minority.
