The Big News: 32 Tumors are GONE! 🛡️
The old guy took a hike, and I’ve got my second chance. To my Rebels: you are my heroes. Because I am now immunocompromised, we have a few new "ground rules" to keep this victory safe:

1. The "No Hug" Policy 🚫🫂
This is the hardest part for me, but I cannot do physical affection right now. No hugs or kisses—just big waves and smiles from a safe distance!

2. Safe Dining 🍽️
Greg and I are still eating out, but only at smaller, controlled venues like City Grit to avoid general contact and crowds. If you see us, please come say hi, but keep that "social distance."

3. Support & Meals 🍎
My diet has changed (no salads or "loaded" items), and we have strict new safety protocols for the kitchen.
Best way to help: Gift cards for grocery stores or food prep services.

Home cooking: Please check with us first regarding our new safety procedures before preparing anything.

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of this miracle!

Against the Odds.
Against the disease.
We REBELED!!!

Treatment 4, Week 8. All hopes lie in controlling the uncontrollable.

Next week we head back to Jacksonville, fingers crossed that stability has been regained. Eight weeks of hopes hinge on one image a week from today. That scan decides if I can go back down the transplant route, or if we pivot to a new approach— ablation or even an implant.

Until then, I sit here, sometimes feeling helpless to the disease and subject to the poison I put my faith in to deliver me from this nightmare.

But I am holding on to the belief that it is always darkest before the dawn. ☀️

Against the disease, I rebel.

01/20/2026

As I checked in for treatment this morning, the sound of a fellow fighter’s audible crying and distress hit me like a semi-truck. It instantly transported me back to my first week as a cancer patient—the tears I wept and the visceral pain I felt as the life I knew changed forever.

While I remained silent, I joined her in spirit, knowing her pain, her fear, and the terrifying unknown.

I’ve lost track of time, but today marks just over 50 rounds of chemo. It is also the day after I received the devastating news that I have been removed from the liver donation process. My last scans revealed one of my tumors has grown, and my CEA has continued to climb since December.

The thing with cancer is, you never know when you’ve truly hit bottom. The hopes I held in December have been demolished by the realities of January. That woman’s grief today reminded me how grueling this fight is. Even over two years since my diagnosis, I continue to struggle with it. I struggle with the life I could have had versus where I am today.

I cry for the rock bottoms I continue to hit. But I am holding out hope that this specific bottom will be the foundation where I can finally stage my rebellion.

“Rebellions are built on hope… but hope isn’t the end of the war.”

As we close out 2025 and step into 2026, I shared a very honest update about where things stand in my fight with cancer — the progress, the setbacks, the pauses, and what it means when you think you’ve blown up the Death Star… only to realize there’s another one waiting.

This update is raw, personal, and hard to write — but it matters. It covers the reality of this phase of the journey, the mental health impact of losing and rebuilding hope, and why a liver transplant remains my only chance at a cure.

If you’ve been wondering how things are really going — or how you can help — I ask that you take a few minutes to read the full update on CaringBridge:

My official two-year prognosis anniversary is here! I'm still here, fighting, and teaching. But the fight has taken a brutal toll, and we are now moving into a critical phase: securing a LIVING LIVER DONOR to give me the best chance at survival.
My latest, most honest post on CaringBridge is a look behind the curtain at the hidden costs of survival, detailing the side effects you don't see—from neuropathy that ended my career, to painful skin damage, and the constant mental struggle with a body that feels like an imposter.

✨ “Rebellions are built on hope.” ✨

I’m Jeremy — a husband, dog dad, mentor, teacher, and athletic trainer. For nearly 2 years I’ve been fighting Stage 4 Colon Cancer with over 45 rounds of chemo. My only chance at a cure remains a liver transplant, and we are still searching for a matching living donor — blood type O- or O+.

Next week, I’ll be heading to the Mayo Clinic for a week of testing in hopes of being listed at a second location — expanding the battlefield and increasing my odds. In the meantime, we’re exploring new chemo options as my body continues to fight its own galactic war.

I’m incredibly lucky to still be standing — almost two years later — but the fight isn’t over. To climb this next mountain, I need the strength of the entire Rebellion.

I’m Jeremy — a husband, dog dad, mentor, teacher, and athletic trainer. For nearly two years, I’ve been fighting Stage 4 Colon Cancer with more than 45 rounds of chemo. Now, my only path to a cure is a living liver transplant.

At first, only O- donors could step forward. Today, the circle of hope grows: O- and O+ heroes are eligible. That means more potential lifesavers, more allies for the Rebellion.

One donor doesn’t just save me—they also save another patient waiting for a transplant from the deceased donor list. Two lives changed. Two victories for the light side.

Against the odds. Against the Disease.

In October of 2023, just before my 44th birthday, a routine physical revealed slightly elevated liver numbers. At the time, I felt completely healthy, with no pain or other symptoms to explain the unexpected results. However, the discovery of blood in my stool prompted my healthcare team to order a colonoscopy. It was in November of 2024 that this procedure delivered the devastating news: a lesion was found, and the physician suspected colon cancer. That day felt like the worst of my life.

But the following Friday brought even graver news. The diagnosis was confirmed – colon cancer – and scans revealed it had already metastasized to my liver, with the staggering discovery of 32 lesions. The world seemed to tilt on its axis, heck it fell off it.

Despite the shock, I knew I had to act quickly. I moved forward with the placement of a port and began chemotherapy as soon as possible. From that point until April of 2025, I underwent over 36 consecutive cycles of chemo, fighting with everything I had. Then, a new possibility emerged: a liver transplant. This offered a beacon of hope, a chance for a future I desperately wanted.

Now, in May of 2025, I took the first surgical step in this new chapter – the resection of the colon. Following that procedure over the next six months, while recovering and preparing, my focus will be on finding a living liver donor. This life-saving procedure is my only chance at overcoming this stage 4 cancer and returning to the life I cherish – teaching my students, spending time with my husband, family, and Logan, and yes, even tending to my lawn. This journey has been challenging, but I remain hopeful, and I am reaching out to you now as a crucial part of this next step.

Join the Rebellion!

About Me and My Journey - The Rebellion starts here...

Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs, doesn't it? For me, that curveball has landed me here, sharing a deeply personal journey with you. My name is Jeremy Searson, and for years, my life has been dedicated to the world of health and education. From shaping future healthcare professionals as a Health Science Faculty member and designing innovative learning spaces, to my work with athletic programs at various levels – including even the NFL – my passion has always been about helping others reach their full potential and ensuring their well-being. Even now, while facing this health challenge, I continue to teach high school students on the days I don't have treatment, and during the summer, I'm actively involved in teaching online education courses. My commitment to my students and the field of education remains unwavering.

Beyond my professional life, I find joy in the simple things. I'm a huge Star Wars fan (may the force be with us!), I take perhaps a little too much pride in my lawn and landscaping, and my heart is full thanks to my wonderful husband Greg, my seven amazing nieces and nephews, and my loyal Shih Tzu companion, Logan. A perfect day might involve a Star Wars marathon, the satisfying hum of the lawnmower, and definitely ends with a Rita's Italian Ice or a comforting plate of spaghetti.

Recently, my life took an unexpected turn. I've been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and the path to healing requires a liver transplant. While this news has been challenging, it hasn't diminished my spirit or my desire to continue living a full and meaningful life, actively engaging in my teaching whenever possible.

This is where you come in. Finding a living donor is my greatest hope for a future filled with more Star Wars adventures, manicured lawns, cherished moments with my family and friends, and the continued opportunity to educate and inspire young minds. The incredible gift of a living liver donation would not only save my life, but it would also allow me to continue making a positive impact on the lives of others, something that is deeply important to me.

Perhaps you've considered living donation before, or maybe this is the first time you're hearing about it. Sharing my story is the first step, and I sincerely hope it resonates with you. Would you consider learning more about living liver donation? Could you share my story with your network? Even the smallest action can create a ripple effect of hope.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your consideration and support mean the world to me and my loved ones.
