The Judy Center Early Learning Hub at SFES We serve families with children 0-5yrs. Our families live in the Stevens Forest ES area in Columbia, MD. This is the vision of Judith P.

All children will come to school ready to learn and prepared for success. Hoyer after whom the Judy Centers were named. She succeeded in shaping and enhancing the futures of thousands of students throughout Prince George’s county and Maryland. The partnerships she established with private agencies and public service providers improved school success through early intervention and comprehensive services to families with young children. The Stevens Forest HCPSS Judy Center Early Learning Hub is located in the Stevens Forest Elementary School’s (SFES) attendance area and was established in 2025. Our goal is to help families help their children become ready for school and to establish a path to success in their school careers. We serve families with young children (birth through age five). Our families live in the Stevens Forest Elementary School attendance area, have children who attend Head Start or who have 4 year old children attending our Pre-Kindergarten and Regional Early Childhood Center programs.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors the histories, cultures and continuing contributions of Native peoples. Meaningful recognition also requires acknowledging the displacement and injustices Indigenous communities have endured and listening to their experiences and perspectives.

In 2020, I announced that Howard County would recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day as an official County holiday. That decision reflected our responsibility to tell a fuller history and create opportunities for residents to learn from one another.

This afternoon, our will host a free, all-ages Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration at the Harriet Tubman Cultural Center, from 4 to 7 p.m. Residents can learn about Indigenous cultures, contributions and experiences, past and present.

I encourage residents to take part and continue learning about Native peoples’ experiences and contributions throughout the year.

Join Healthy New Moms on October 20th for How Can You Support Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health? with Kay Connors, LCSW-C, IMH-E®, a Senior Clinical Social Worker and Instructor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine whose work focuses on expanding access to evidence-based supports for young children and families.

Participants will explore practical strategies for strengthening caregiver-child relationships, recognizing early developmental or behavioral concerns, connecting families to resources and supporting healthy social-emotional development from birth through age 5.
