For this week’s Teaching Practice, we’re returning to Environments!

Providing directions telling children what to do rather than what not to do promotes positive behavior through guidance and reduces confusion.

This week’s transition tidbit: motivate with positive reinforcement. Celebrate the wins—even the small ones!

• Use positive descriptive feedback (“I love how Isaiah cleaned up!”).
• Set class goals for transitions and reward success.
• Use reinforcers like punch cards, parties, or prize tickets.

Kids notice when we notice them doing well!

For this week’s Transition Tip, be ready and rehearse! Transitions go better when everyone knows the plan!

• Be organized with materials ready for the next activity.
• Teach, model, and practice all transition routines (e.g. lining up, cleaning up).
• Practice how to transition for out-of-classroom moments too!

Preparation = smoother days for kids and grown-ups.

This week’s Teaching Practice is Emotional and Social Development!

Using everyday moments to teach about feelings helps children understand their own emotions and the emotions of others.

This week’s transition tidbit: Use cues and reminders to ease the shift. Help kids transition smoothly with signals and countdowns!

* Use cues like clapping patterns, songs, or “1-2-3 eyes on me.”
* Use individualized supports to help certain kids understand expectations.
* Give 3–5 minute reminders before transitions.

Kids thrive with a heads-up and a routine rhythm.

This week’s Teaching Practice is Engagement and Learning!

Some children need extra supports to stay engaged. Providing visual checklists, adapted materials, or alternative seating can make routines and activities accessible to every child.
