The University of Missouri Bands has three graduate teaching assistantships available for students interested in pursuing graduate studies (e.g., MM or PhD in Music Education, MM in Wind Conducting) starting in the Fall of 2026.

Two assistantships involve assisting with undergraduate music education techniques courses such as Basic Conducting, Rehearsal Clinic, and Instrumental Methods, working with Marching Mizzou and other athletic bands, and concert band conducting opportunities with three separate ensembles. The other assistantship includes some of these duties along with assisting in the tuba and euphonium studio. Teaching assistantships range from a quarter-time to half-time appointment (10-20 hrs per week) with an anticipated stipend of $8,910 - $19,600. This amount is paid over the nine months of the academic year.

In addition, tuition for coursework required for the degree is waived during the appointment period. This waiver covers both Missouri residents and non-residents at all levels. Half-time assistantships (0.5 FTE) also come with full health insurance coverage, and 0.25 FTE appointments come with a 50% allowance for health insurance.

A bachelor’s degree in music and admission to the MU Graduate School is required. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Applicants must audition/interview on campus. Applications will be reviewed on a continuing basis until these positions are offered and filled. The priority deadline is December 1, 2025.
Interested candidates may find more information on our website at https://music.missouri.edu/grad or by contacting me at [email protected].
