What a powerful and moving conversation between Mayor Yemi and Wayne Williams at the Reclaiming Civility Community Roundtable Discussion yesterday! These two are modeling in real time how to make friends with "rivals". The sincere respect and affection they have for each other is evident, even as they retain differences in opinion. Well done Mayor and Wayne!

Most people care deeply about their communities.
But very few of us have ever been taught how to engage across differences without causing harm.
So instead of focusing on opinions, we focus on skills:
Listening.
Restraint.
Curiosity.
Accountability.
These aren’t just nice ideas—they’re things we can actually practice and get better at over time.
And if more of us practiced them, our conversations (and communities) would look very different.
Which of these do you think we need more of right now—listening, restraint, curiosity, or accountability?

You’re not the only one.

• stay in hard conversations
• communicate without it escalating
And it’s showing.
