Children’s author and educator creating stories and resources that support kindness, culture, and emotional growth.

Hi, I’m Nadja — a children’s author, educator, and mom. I write gentle stories that support kindness, emotional growth, and curiosity about the world. As a military spouse of 22 years, I understand resilience, adaptability, and the importance of creating a sense of stability for children. Many of my story ideas come from teaching, learning, and everyday moments with children.

What if the very thing that made you different became your greatest strength?

Meet Edward, a young cow who doesn't quite fit in. While the other cows look the same, Edward discovers something colorful about himself that makes him stand out—and not everyone likes it.

But when trouble comes to the meadow, Edward learns an important lesson: being different isn't something to hide. It might be exactly what the world needs.

💙 A heartwarming story about friendship, courage, kindness, and embracing who you are.

Perfect for classrooms, families, and anyone who has ever felt a little different.

📖 Have you ever felt like you didn't fit in? Edward's story might surprise you.

A Year We Stood Guard 🇬🇧✨

After recently visiting London and beautiful Bath Spa, England, I fell in love all over again with the charm, warmth, and little details that make Britain feel magical. That inspiration lives inside my newest children’s book, A Year We Stood Guard by Nadja Coln.

Set in London beneath the chimes of Big Ben, this heartfelt story follows siblings Alice and Theo through one unforgettable year before Theo begins training with the Royal Guard. It is a story about sibling love, courage, growing up, and standing guard over the people we love — even from far away. ❤️🇬🇧

What makes this story especially authentic is that it is written using British English throughout the book, giving American children a chance to discover the differences between British and American vocabulary in a natural and fun way.

Some British English words used in the story include:

🇬🇧 Biscuits → what Americans call cookies
🇬🇧 Crisps → what Americans call chips
🇬🇧 Mum → instead of Mom
🇬🇧 Posh → meaning fancy or elegant
🇬🇧 Fairy lights → decorative string lights
🇬🇧 Cheeky monkeys → a playful British expression for mischievous children

The story also includes iconic London places children can recognize and explore:
✨ Big Ben
✨ The Thames
✨ Hyde Park
✨ Regent Street
✨ The London Eye

Then suddenly…
THUMP.
THUD.
BOOM.
The ground shook.
Freddy jumped straight into the air.
Zing zoomed in circles.
Mr. Toadley shouted,
“GIANT ALERT! GIANT ALERT!”

📱👀 While You Were Not Looking by Nadja Coln is now available on Amazon!

I wrote this book because I started noticing something that many of us see every day. Teenagers were walking home from school, sitting at lunch, and even spending recess staring down at their phones. They were physically together, but mentally somewhere else.

Nobody was looking up anymore.

This story is a humorous but thoughtful reminder of what we may be missing when our eyes are glued to a screen—real conversations, friendships, laughter, and the beauty of the world around us.

Perfect for teenagers, parents, and teachers, While You Were Not Looking encourages readers to pause, put down their phones, and reconnect with life.
