A powerful prayer!
a dangerous prayer: dear God, help me un-become everything that's not me, so I can finally become everything you created me to be. amen.
The masks you've worn to survive.
The voice that isn't yours echoing back.
The shape you've twisted yourself into.
The yes when your soul screams no.
This prayer lands different when you realize how much of yourself you've buried beneath expectations, beneath the need to be liked, beneath the fear of taking up too much space. It's dangerous because it asks God to strip away everything familiar — even the parts that hurt, even the patterns that feel safe because they're all you've known.
The un-becoming is where the real work lives. It's releasing the grip on who you thought you had to be to earn love. It's letting go of the story that your worth depends on your productivity, your niceness, your ability to shrink. It's the sacred rebellion of refusing to perform a version of yourself that leaves you feeling empty.
But here's what happens in the dangerous space of this prayer: you start to remember. You remember the dreams that got buried under "be practical." You remember the boldness that got trained out of you. You remember the way your spirit used to move before the world told it to sit still and be quiet.
You may see yourself as selfish for wanting more
She sees herself as finally brave enough to want what God placed in her heart
You may see yourself as too much when you stop dimming your light
She sees herself stepping into the fullness she was always meant to embody
You may see uncertainty as you shed old skins
She sees the beautiful, terrifying freedom of becoming authentic
