A page dedicated to the art, history, genealogy, and preservation of our cemeteries ~ oddities, fune Greetings! I have a love and respect for history.

For the past 35 years I have been researching my family history and found it to be a true labor of love. What I found frustrating however is not being able to locate someone in the area where my ancestors were buried, so that I might be able to get a picture of their final resting place. As a form of 'giving back' and to help others on their genealogical journey, I offer my services to those who w

Suspect captured in cemetery vandalism case out of Monument 07/30/2021

Why? Why do people do this? I hope he gets fined, jail time AND has to go back to the cemetery and FIX the headstones he damaged (all supervised ofcourse).
Crystal Park Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in the county. I've been there and it is beautiful, peaceful and nestled right up against the mountains. Most of the headstones are very old, and when in need of repair, family must be contacted to do that. More often what happens is, there is no family left to contact and the headstones lay in a heap, just the way they fell or were pushed over. The sad truth is that the city and county are not going to spend any money to fix these loving memorials, period. Perpetual care means "we water and mow the grass" in the cemetery.
Unfortunately, one must have the necessary skills and equipment to put these symbols of history back to their former glory. Marble, sandstone, granite, bronze, white bronze/zinc, slate and gabbro must be cleaned and put back together in different ways. I'm not even sure if white bronze can be put back together or repairs made....anyway, I digress.
I really hope this delinquint gets more that a slap on the wrist!

The First U.S. Funeral Home That Turns Bodies Into Compost Is Now Open 02/14/2021

With the high cost of traditional burials, not to mention the pollutants put into the eatch from concrete, caskets and chemicals, and filling up quickly, this is pretty interesting. I wonder if one could have half of their body cremated by aquamation (so the family could have cremains) and the other half made into compost....interesting idea

Hi everyone. As you know, I haven't been on very much this year. It's been the worst year ever. So many deaths that have touched me. Even my sweet kitty I had for 20 years passed on Saturday! I had to take her to the crematory today. This year has been scary, causing much anxiety and grief. It makes one wonder if things will ever get back to normalcy, or if what we are experiencing is the new "normal."
I have to say the only thing that keeps me going is the thought and hope that things will get better eventually. I am a healthcare worker and have been for the past 14 years. Take what is said on the news about vaccinations for Covid with a grain of salt, as I have yet to receive it, nor has it been offered or mentioned. Not every healthcare worker has been vaccinated. So keep up wearing a mask, stay 6 feet apart, don't gather in a crowd, use common sense and know that when you follow the rules you are protecting yourselves AND others. Staying 6 feet apart is better than 6 feet under. With that, as hard as it is to say, Happy Holidays to you, no matter what race, religion, orientation, etc....be kind, be aware, be concerned and most of all, be caring. Let's get 2020 gone already!😔
