If you are not spending your time clearing your stuff putting it away dealing with it immediately
You will spend your time clearing it up later.
The fewer times you touch an item the better.

Doom boxes or boxes of delayed decisions or what if boxes? This large now empty box was all of that. 🎁 There were 5 separate bags of fabric in there. It was from the fabric restoration after the Fire 7 years ago. 🏠 πŸ”₯ As I sorted things and made the bags smaller they all fit in here. But then the sorting stopped. And the box sat in a storage unit that existed first because of my mother's stroke, then our house fire, then mom's death.
We have real and valid reasons for our feelings surrounding our boxes.
Today I sorted this box with new eyes and new words. Am I doing a service to myself but owning this item, will I ever use it, and if so when, is this a piece that I can even donate?
Categories are
Gifting,
Donation,
Keeping,
Trash & Recycling.
Gifting: Do I know someone who will use this (I then asked them & I am delivering it to them) the blue gingham is going to a new home,
Donation: the blue box is donated,
Keeping: the pile of baby is Peter rabbit and I am keeping it. I will make baby blankets out of it. (A thing I am proven to do) The white fabric is curtain lace I want to wait to decide on it till my daughter is here in case she wants me to make anything with it,
Trash or Recycling : and the last bag is trash.
It was challenging because there were stories with the fabric of my mother's stories. It is ok to feel sadness at going through and letting go of things that have memories. You can even take photos and make a memory book with the stories written with the photo. But letting things sit in boxes is not honoring the stories and it is not honoring your Peace of mind. (I am going to even use the box as a mulching layer in my garden a thing my mom would very much approve of. 🌺

Organizing for a BEE type style on The Clutter Bug scale. Using clear bins to see what is in them but having them separated into sub categories.
This is also an eco & thrift organization in this case. I reused what was on hand rather than going and buying custom containers that would cost more and put more waste in the world.
These are canning jars and reusable jars. They are used for transferring food stores out of boxes or containers because glass keeps food fresher longer, as well as protects the food from mice or bugs.
I can see what is in them and write on them with grease markers, I can down size as the containers get less full taking up less room in the pantry. As well as see when more of something is needed.
All things BEE organizers and this persons ADHD brain likes.
There are also Butterflies who have ADHD and organize differently to this. You might like this if you do you might be happier using organizing ideas like this.

Take the Clutter bug quiz to find out.

If you won't let it go because it is sentimental put it in a clear storage bin marked sentimental. Give yourself love and only have things in your clothing rotation clothes you can wear. Out of season can be on the side of you must store it in your closet. However if you can remove that as well then as you rotate out the seasonal clothing purge that witch it is time to let go.

Dealing with mail. I am a gen X-er so I still get paper bills. It helps my ADHD mind and I don't trust companies.they change and I can't find past bills.
(Yes this has happened and now I don't trust the)

Keep a shredder and recycling bin and trash near one another and open in that area. Envelopes go straight in the recycling bin, junk is divided with plastic in the trash and the rest in recycling. Personal things you want to shred do right then.
Now left should be bills or answer then item.
I have a folder/bin that I stack ToDo/actOn into. Then I have a file/bin on I don't know or not yet garbage (like seed catalogs or flyers.
After my bills are paid they go into the not now file and I file every now and again from there.
You can also choose to have a monthly file so one per month where you put all items acted on into. I choose per company. I have a paid once file for one time only bills that do not need their own folders.
I removed the plastic from the mail for the trash and I have been known to compost the shreads during the rainy season because of how fast it breaks down in my composting
Once a year Jan I empty all the folders leaving Decembers and Jan bills only in the files. I bundle the rest into a similar folder I write last year's date on it and then move it to a place I store it for one year. When I put it there I grab the year before and I burn it in the fire ring. You can shred it over a week or 2 times or recycle it. As you see fit.

Time to look through your food cabinet and bless forward good intentions. A planned meal that didn't happen. That sale item that you thought you would eat but it really isn't a thing you grab for.
Take it all to a church parking lot blessing box and leave it for someone who needs it more and free your mind of the guilt of wasting food. Then try and do better next time.
You can make a favorite meals list and try and keep back ups of the ingredients on hand so that if you don't know what to cook you can pull from that list.
This year when organizing and purging put the self abuse guilt gives you in the trash, and bless forward food.
You got this! I believe in you!

At one point in my life going to the thrift store was a weekly trip. We had younger children and clothes were cheap but so were toys. The toys got over whelming. 🧸 πŸͺ€
We needed to get them under control. To get bulk amounts of small toys out the children has to give me 20 toys to remove for one new toy to come in.
Then it went down to 15,10,5,3,1.
I let them pick if I felt they should choose of toy to remove I became that toys owner and it lived in a sentimental box that I was in charge of. Because they didn't need it cluttering up their lives. 🎁
As adults my children have reclaimed some of those as I knew they might. Others I claim as grandmother rights and have a toy box for visiting children. (I don't have grandchildren)

When you release things you let go of the feeling of lacking abundance. You create blessings for others by blessing forward stuff that doesn't serve you.
You can imagine someone finding these things in the Thrift store and it being exactly what they were looking for. You make room in your space and life for exactly what you need and desire. Decluttering is a spiritual awakening and mental releasing of that which does not serve you. Progress not perfection.
