Accountability ratings will soon be out for our schools and district. So with that in mind, think of school accountability like a basketball game where the league changes the rules. Last season, scoring 75 points might have been enough to win. This season, teams are also judged on defense, teamwork, rebounds, and improvement throughout the year.
Mississippi has done something similar with school accountability. The standards have been raised, and this year sets a new baseline. That means a school's letter grade may look different—even if students and teachers are performing as well or better than before.
The important thing is to look beyond the letter grade and focus on student growth, achievement, and continuous improvement. At Hopewell, we're committed to helping every student succeed, no matter how the scoreboard changes.
