Texas A&M’s Science Role Models and Mentors (SRM²) program connects rural elementary students with university science mentors through virtual learning experiences. The program helps students build interest in science, explore STEM careers, and connect with real-world scientists — all from their classrooms.
Led by researchers including Dr. Rafael Lara-Alecio, Dr. Beverly Irby, Dr. Kara Sutton-Jones, Dr. Fuhui Tong, Dr. Cindy Guerrero, and Makeda Mills, SRM² is creating innovative learning opportunities for rural youth across Texas.

The Education Leadership Research Center (ELRC) at Texas A&M University is proud to partner with Grigol Robakidze University (GRUNI) in delivering the “Thinking Outside the Leadership Box,” TESOL, and “Paths to Publication” programs. Since 2022, this partnership has created meaningful opportunities for educators, researchers, and students across Georgia.
This week, we celebrated program graduates and their commitment to continued growth as educators and leaders. Participants shared that these programs strengthened their professional competencies and expanded their ability to implement innovative practices within their institutions and communities, reflecting the broader impact of leadership development across diverse educational contexts.
Special thanks to Anna Abesadze for opening the event and to Professor Mamuka Tavkhelidze, Nika Beselia, and Harvey Cernowitz of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia for their thoughtful remarks on the importance of international collaboration in education, leadership, and support for emerging researchers.
We also recognize the contributions of ELRC representatives — Drs. Beverly Irby, Rafael Lara-Alecio, Jim Lynch, Uyok Hanson, Mahreen Kashif Ghayas, and Mohamed Seyed — for their leadership and dedication to international collaboration and educational advancement.
Congratulations to all graduates, and thank you to our partners at GRUNI for their continued collaboration.
