At our August School Board meeting, we had the opportunity to celebrate and recognize 𝐊𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐁𝐲𝐞𝐫 as she begins a well-deserved retirement after 25.5 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.

For so many of her students, Mrs. Byer was one of their very first teachers and what a special teacher to have at the very beginning of their school journey. As a Pre-K teacher at South Grant Elementary, she had a gift for making little ones feel loved and excited to learn.

Anyone who had the opportunity to see Mrs. Byer in her classroom knew just how fantastic she was. Her love for teaching and for her students was evident in everything she did. That dedication was also recognized when 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲'𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 2022–2023 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫.

There are countless students who started their educational journey in Mrs. Byer's classroom and we know the impact she made will stay with them long after they have left South Grant Elementary.

We hope retirement brings you just as much joy as you brought to the students who were lucky enough to call you their teacher. 💛💙

The search is officially underway for Louisiana's next 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬, and we know there are some truly deserving individuals right here in Grant Parish!

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭… 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥, some stories just feel extra special. 💛🖤

Jasmine Howard first experienced Verda Elementary as a student. Years later, she returned with a new purpose: helping shape the educational journeys of the next generation of VES students.

For the past 10 years, she has stood in classrooms, taught students, built relationships, and become part of the lives of so many VES families. Two years ago she stepped into the role of Highly Skilled Educator, sharing her knowledge and passion with fellow teachers and helping them grow in their own classrooms.

Anyone who has had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Howard knows just how gifted she is at supporting students and teachers. She brings that same heart into everything she does and she will continue serving as VES’s Highly Skilled Educator this year alongside her new role.

We are so excited to congratulate 𝐉𝐚𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲!

There is something pretty special about watching someone who grew up in your school community continue to give back to it. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐒𝐄 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥, Mrs. Howard has been part of the VES family for a long time and we can't wait to see what this next chapter brings.

As she begins this new role, Mrs. Howard shared:

Grant Parish 4-H gives our kids opportunities to 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧, 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝, 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐰! From livestock and agriculture to shooting sports, culinary, STEAM, Junior Leaders, community service and even camps at Camp Grant Walker right here at home in Po***ck.

With 400+ Grant Parish youth participating last year, there’s a place for everyone — whether they’re a returning 4-H member or joining for the first time. 💚
