Congratulations to our heroic classmate, Fritz Wiedenhoff! He has been selected to receive the Idaho Medal of Honor.
Northern Lakes Fire District is humbled and honored that the State of Idaho has selected Captain Fritz Weidenhoff to receive the Idaho Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on June 29th at Canfield Mountain.
On that day, Captain Weidenhoff recognized an immediate and deadly threat and transmitted critical information over the radio that altered the course of the response.
In the midst of chaos and extreme personal risk, Captain Weidenhoff demonstrated extraordinary composure, decisive leadership, and command presence. His communication prevented additional personnel from entering the danger area and directly saved the lives of firefighters and law enforcement officers.
Kootenai County Deputies Ballman, Brock, and Orr were also awarded the Idaho Medal of Honor for their bravery in advancing into danger to rescue firefighters. Their courage and decisive action under fire reflect the highest commitment to public safety.
We also honor Coeur d’Alene Fire Engineer David Tysdal, who was awarded the Idaho Medal of Honor for his extraordinary courage and selfless actions that day.
We equally recognize the critical role of Kootenai County 911 Dispatchers, whose professionalism and calm coordination under unimaginable pressure were essential during this incident.
We remain grateful to every Firefighter EMT/Paramedic, law enforcement officer, and dispatcher who responded with courage and unwavering dedication.
