Surtax funding supports a range of physical security improvements across Brevard Public Schools. This is not a new tax. The half-cent sales surtax is an existing funding source that voters are being asked to renew.

These investments include secure single-point entry, upgraded locks and gates, reinforced front office safety features, expanded security camera coverage, and modern emergency alert systems.
Every visitor entering a school is directed through the front office for check-in, helping schools monitor access and maintain secure learning environments.

These upgrades create safer entrances, give schools greater visibility across the property, and make it possible to respond quickly in an emergency.

Surtax helps ensure schools have the safety infrastructure needed to help protect students and staff.

Cocoa High's Cheerleading Program is inviting our Rockets to participate in their Mini Tigers Cheer Camp on September 12th–13th from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM at Cocoa High School. The goal is to connect with our future Tigers early, build school spirit within our feeder schools, and give students an opportunity to experience Cocoa Cheer! 🧡🖤

Campers will receive a Mini Tigers T-shirt, Cocoa Cheer bow, mini pom-poms, temporary tattoo/sticker, certificate of completion, snacks and water, and the opportunity to work with and take photos with our Cocoa Cheerleaders. They’ll also receive a special invitation to cheer alongside our Varsity Cheer Team at the September 25th Cocoa football game! 🏈📣

Registration is $75 through September 4th and $85 beginning September 5th, with a sibling special available.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐭. Neither are new. Both are already in place.

Earlier this week we shared about the Sales Surtax.

The second measure on November's ballot is the 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 — a property tax renewal that funds the teachers, programs, and technology that make learning happen every day in Brevard County classrooms.

Millage is the small portion of property taxes that stays right here in Brevard County, locally approved by voters to directly support Brevard Public Schools. Every dollar collected goes to the people and programs inside our schools.

Millage funds three things: 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐲, 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲.

This November, two local funding measures are on the ballot.

Neither are new. Both are already in place.

This week's Rocket of the Week is Ms. Escobar!

Since joining our team this year as an ESOL teacher, she has made an immediate and lasting impact on our school community. Ms. Escobar approaches every day with a positive attitude, a servant's heart, and a willingness to do whatever is needed to support students and staff. Whether she is covering a class, assisting colleagues, or stepping in during challenging situations, she is always ready to help. Her flexibility and dependability make her an invaluable member of our team.

One of Ms. Escobar's greatest strengths is her ability to build strong, meaningful relationships with students and families. She works tirelessly to support students, helping them navigate challenges while ensuring they feel seen, heard, and valued. Her calm and caring approach is especially evident when helping de-escalate situations and providing students with the support they need to be successful. In addition, she plays a vital role in strengthening communication with our Spanish-speaking families by providing translation services and helping families feel connected to our school.

Ms. Escobar truly does it all, and we are incredibly grateful for her dedication, compassion, and commitment to making Saturn Elementary a better place every day.

This week, we are proud to recognize Ms. Overdorf as our Rocket of the Week!

Ms. Overdorf has a tremendous impact on our campus and exemplifies what it means to be dedicated to excellence. During our recent district walks, she stood out in a way that speaks volumes about her commitment to her students. While other classrooms were being observed, our director noticed Ms. Overdorf during her planning time with her UFLI flipbook and presentation slides open, actively preparing and practicing her lesson.

Anyone familiar with UFLI knows that it is not a program you can simply pick up and teach without preparation. It requires intentional planning, study, and practice. Ms. Overdorf consistently puts in that work behind the scenes to ensure she delivers the highest level of instruction to her students every single day.

Beyond her excellent teaching, Ms. Overdorf has built a classroom culture where students feel valued, respected, and supported. She genuinely cares for every child, and they know it. The relationships she builds with her students are a reflection of the kindness, respect, and dedication she brings to our school each day.

Ms. Overdorf is the kind of teacher every child hopes to have and every school is fortunate to have on its team. Thank you for your hard work, your passion, and the incredible difference you make in the lives of our students.
