I recently did a super deep dive into a legal concept that is often described as “patriarchy.” I didn't know that “coverture” was the actual legal name of our worldwide patriarchal phenomenon.
In the next slides, get acquainted with the concept of coverture in the USA.
This presentation is by no means an extensive study into the origins of the law that strips legal identity and agency from women; it is simply a primer about how we got where we are today.
