2nd Grade Prep Group will be reviewing vowel teams today. We’ll review the long vowel sounds made by ea, ee, ai, ay, oa, and oe while discussing their placement in words as we complete the vowel placement chart together. We’ll read a decodable that features words with vowel teams and do some sentence dictation afterwards. I’m looking forward to our session!
This soon-to-be first grader is doing a great job decoding closed and open syllables. Here he is explaining that closed syllables end in a consonant and force the vowel to say it’s short sound, while open syllables end in a vowel and cause the vowel to make its long sound.
This concept is an essential building block before introducing two-syllable words.
