Killing some time before the Arvin Abbott memorial service and hanging out in The Basecamp Eatery (AKA YL Food Court or Cafeteria). They have been left unattended for some time. I’m also gonna watch for folks taking food off tables.
Some things never change.

Edit: The closest one turned out to be Chongo’s.

59RIDE California
Department alumni will remember our radio code for giving someone a ride was 10-59. I spotted this yesterday in Clovis. I wonder if the owner is connected to Yosemite or if it’s just a coincidence.

Just leaving this here, not posting an opinion about him.
During my career in law enforcement, my very first call on my very first day with my FTO was a su***de. One of the calls on my last shift was a su***de, and for all the years in between, I responded to su***des at least once a year—more than any other Deputy during that time. (Also responded to some along with NPS in Yosemite.) I’ve seen the hurt and anguish it leaves behind with others, intentional or not.

Good to recently see Mark Faherty, former YCS/DNC Security Officer and YOSE LE Ranger, on ABC’s 20/20.

When we transferred Engine 7/51 to the Los Angeles County Fire Museum, we worked closely with (now retired) L.A. Fire’s Joe Woyjeck during the transition process.
I was able to meet his son Kevin a handful of times, a bright eyed young man excited to follow in his father’s career path as a firefighter. Sadly, Kevin was part of the Prescott Fire’s Granite Mountain Hotshots Crew 7 who were lost during the Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013.
Yesterday, we visited friends in Prescott. We saw the memorial in the town square and heard the stories of how the community continually remembers their sacrifices.
On the way back to the Phoenix area, we stopped by the memorial along the highway. It’s a rigorous hike to the location they perished, and unfortunately the heat of the day and a failing knee prevented me from making the strenuous trek.
They have a wonderful memorial along the roadside turnout. I added our patch to the collection there.

Steve Fastenau passed along his well wishes to everyone!
I needed some CB radio antenna repairs on my FJ Cruiser and went with someone I could trust. We hadn’t seen each other since the summer of 2018, so it was great catching up with each other. He stays busy with work and still does some work in the park for Aramark, yet nowhere near what the Curry Co. and DNC provided.
Like pretty much all of us have voiced to some degree, he said the DNC time was a one of the best times in the park for business and work acquaintances.
