There’s a difference between having a plan and being buried in paperwork to prove you have one.

A scope and sequence? Absolutely. A unit planning guide that shows where we’re going and how lessons connect? Yes. That’s good instructional practice.

But pages of fillable daily lesson plans just to check a compliance box? No.

We need teachers to plan with purpose, connect lessons to the bigger picture, and know where students are headed, while still leaving room to respond to the actual kids sitting in front of us.

Plan with purpose. Teach with intention. Adjust when students need you to.

If you’ve ever watched your child work so hard at reading and wondered what else they need, you are not alone. 💛

Reading challenges are not a sign of laziness or a lack of effort. Sometimes growth begins when we look beyond “read more” and ask: What helps this child feel safe, confident, and ready to learn?

That might mean audiobooks, movement breaks, practicing in smaller steps, connecting reading to their interests, or celebrating progress that others may not notice. The goal is not perfection: it’s helping children build skills without losing their joy or confidence. 📚

We love to blame teachers for the reading crisis.

But if we’re serious about fixing it, we have to be willing to look upstream.

Who writes the policies?

Who creates the mandates?

Who influences curriculum decisions?

Who determines what teachers are taught in preparation programs?

Who controls the funding and resources?

Teachers work within the systems we create.

They don’t create all of them.

And they certainly don't make the financial or administrative decisions.

If we want better outcomes for kids, we need to stop looking for one person to blame and start looking at the decisions, systems, and people with the power to change them.

That truth might be uncomfortable, but our kids deserve an honest conversation.

Every few weeks, social media discovers a “revolutionary” new teaching strategy and suddenly we’re all supposed to throw out what we’re doing.

I’m all for new ideas,but before we jump on the trend, let’s ask: Does it work? Is there evidence? And does it actually make sense for our students?

Not everything that goes viral belongs in the classroom.
