Join the Economics Department for the Howard T. McMyler Memorial Lecture series.

Howard T. McMyler, a 1906 graduate of Western Reserve University, served as a dedicated social studies and economics teacher in Cleveland. Following his passing in 1976, the Howard T. McMyler Endowment Fund was established in his honor.

The upcoming lecture features James B. Rebitzer, the Peter and Deborah Wexler Professor at Boston University's Questrom School of Business and founding chair of the department of Markets, Public Policy, and Law. Rebitzer, in collaboration with Robert Rebitzer, will delve into his new book, "WHY NOT BETTER AND CHEAPER?," offering fresh insights into the trajectory of healthcare innovation and strategies for directing innovation towards improvement.

Still on the hunt for a compelling elective? You will love ECON 377: Topics in Monetary Policy. This fascinating course delves into the workings of central banks, including the Federal Reserve System, within the ever-evolving financial landscape. The course adopts a global perspective, enabling students to juxtapose economic theories with real-world scenarios.

The class is led by Professor Mark Schweitzer, a seasoned expert in macroeconomics. As the Senior Vice President of Research at the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank, Professor Schweitzer brings a wealth of real-world experience to the table. For students with a passion for economic research, he's not just a fantastic instructor, but also a potential mentor.

ECON 337 meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm. Please note that prerequisites include ECON102 and ECON103. Additionally, this course is recognized as a Topical Focus Elective for International Studies.

This course has been updated to include weekly viewings of episodes from HBO's Silicon Valley, providing unique insights into the world of technology entrepreneurship. ECON 369 satisfies requirements for the Economics major/minor, Business Management major with Innovation & Entrepreneurship concentration, Business Management minor, and Entrepreneurship minor.
