Students of Promise USA

The Students of Promise Program (SOP) is a Closing the Achievement Gap (CTAG) imitative which aims to provide targeted interventions in efforts to bolster academic achievement, attendance and performance outcomes, increase student promotion rates to the next grade level, reduce negative behavior trends and thinking errors and increase high school graduation rates. In addition, SOP emphasizes social and emotional learning strategies, life skills development, high school navigation, positive affirmations, goal setting and planning, study skills enhancement, college tours and exposure opportunities, parent engagement and linkage to community resources. With a focus on African American and Latino middle and high school students, the Students of Promise Program also makes available its services, opportunities, best practices and components to the entire learning community within the school setting and their families. This is accomplished in part, by a designated Students of Promise “Linkage Coordinator” embedded at the school site within a designated Students of Promise Classroom, who facilitates the program and serves as the primary mentor, student advisor, life-coach, monitor, role model and advocate to ensure that the student’s academic, social and emotional needs are identified, targeted and met throughout the program continuum. The Linkage Coordinator works collaboratively with the building principal, teachers, student support teams and school personnel as well as parents, community leaders/organizations and stakeholders on behalf of the targeted population of students.
