Walker Valley Navy JROTC is not a recruiting program. Our mission is to develop informed, responsible citizens with strong character and leadership skills. However, one of the core principles of that mission is Service to Country, and we will always celebrate our graduates who choose to answer that call.

This morning, Dakota Williams completed The Crucible at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island; the culminating event of Marine Corps Recruit Training.

After successfully completing this demanding 54-hour test of endurance, teamwork, and resilience, Dakota earned the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor and, for the first time, was addressed as “Marine” by his Drill Instructors.

The title Marine is never given—it is earned. And it is a title he will carry with pride for the rest of his life.

We are honored to have played a small part in Dakota’s journey and are incredibly proud of the young man he has become.

Congratulations, Dakota!

Welcome aboard, sir!

Please join us in welcoming Lieutenant Commander J. White, USN (Ret.) to Walker Valley High School as our new Senior Naval Science Instructor.

We are excited to have LCDR White join the Walker Valley family and look forward to the experience, leadership, and mentorship he will bring to Mustang Company. His passion for developing young leaders makes him a great fit for our program, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds as we continue building something special together.

Here’s a message from LCDR White:

“I’m honored and excited for the opportunity to join Walker Valley High School as the Senior Naval Science Instructor. Throughout my Navy career, I had the privilege of leading and mentoring Sailors, and I look forward to bringing that same passion to investing in our cadets. My goal is to help build confidence, character, discipline, and leadership while challenging each student to reach their full potential. I’m grateful for the opportunity to become part of the Walker Valley family, and I’m eager to get to work alongside our cadets, staff, parents, and community as we continue building a program we can all be proud of.”

📣 We Need Your Help! 🇺🇸

Our Walker Valley High School NJROTC program has been incredibly blessed this summer with a large shipment of additional uniforms and equipment. While we’re excited to be able to outfit more cadets, we’ve quickly run into a new challenge—we simply don’t have enough proper storage to organize everything.

We’re looking for community members, local businesses, churches, civic organizations, or skilled volunteers who might be willing to help us build or sponsor storage shelving and uniform racks like those shown in these photos.

If you can help by:
🔹 Donating materials or funds
🔹 Providing woodworking or construction expertise
🔹 Volunteering a few hours of labor
🔹 Connecting us with someone who can help

…we would greatly appreciate it!

Our goal is to complete this project over the next two weeks so everything is organized and ready before our cadets return.

Every dollar, every board, and every hour of help directly supports our students and helps us provide them with a professional environment they can be proud of.

One of the core principles of Navy JROTC is Service to Country.

This Independence Day is especially meaningful for two of our recent graduates. Today marks their first Fourth of July wearing the cloth of our nation as they begin their military journeys.

🇺🇸 Dakota Williams is training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.

Walker Valley Navy JROTC is incredibly proud of both of you. Stay focused, stay motivated, work hard, and most importantly—stay hydrated!

Happy Independence Day from Walker Valley Navy JROTC!

Today we celebrate the birth of our nation and the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. We are grateful for the generations of Americans who have defended our freedoms and for those who continue to answer the call to serve.

As a citizenship development program, we strive to instill honor, courage, commitment, leadership, and a love of country in every cadet.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July!

NJROTC Leadership Camp Graduation Day! We have our first graduates of Leadership Camp in our program. Our campers woke up this morning, began to clean then headed to chow. Afterwards, they finished packing up, changed into uniform and staged all their bags outside. Leadership Academy grads were awarded cords, all were awarded leadership training ribbons, and Basic Leadership Training cadets were also awarded the orienteering ribbon. It was a great ceremony. Cadets were then reunited with their families back at the squad bays to grab their bags and head home. Congratulations!!! I appreciate all the hard work and commitment exhibited by our cadets to attend camp and give it their all while here. Enjoy a little bit of time off. Now that you are trained, more will be expected! NJROTC Leadership Camp Day 4. Yesterday was a great day for our cadets. They finished all graduation requirements for their respective camps. The day started with some drill practice, then they all took Final Exams after breakfast. LA had their Sword Manual Test. BLT learned and practice Orienteering. They also had their final uniform inspection. After dinner, we conducted the Drill Competition. The night concluded with a social hour where the cadets were finally able to hang out and chat with each other and converse with the Instructors & Cadre who have been training them all week. They enjoyed a little pizza, too!

NJROTC Leadership Camp Day 3. The cadets had an eventful day yesterday. They got to sleep in a few extra mins. Reveille was sounded at 0500, and they were outside ready for PT by 0515. BLT had PT with “Army Zach” and LA had their Physical Readiness Test (PRT), which is a graduation requirement. Outstanding job by all. They practiced for the drill competition, had another uniform inspection, and also had a fun competition between the platoons after evening chow. Yes, sun gods do make the sun rise (look at the first couple pics, 😂. I’ve got some great tug-o-war and Anchors Aweigh videos I’ll share in the comments.

NJROTC Leadership Camp Day 2. Their first full day started at 0445. They worked we what we call “lights to lights” today. That’s where they are up and working when it’s still dark in the morning (streetlights still on) until it gets dark again (and the streetlights come back on). We started with some PT, then breakfast followed by a few classes on uniform prep, drill instruction, leadership principles. Next was lunch, then uniform inspection, followed by VTC with the Admiral. More drill, dinner, barracks cleaning, and more learning. Full day! Tomorrow we do it all again, but different events 😂. Big dump of photos, lots of pics of your campers. Just look for them.
