The Mississippi Literacy Association Board met today for an energizing time of collaboration centered on literacy policy, advocacy, and the supports and services needed to strengthen educators and improve outcomes for learners across our great state.

We are not simply discussing literacy—we are championing it, advancing it, and working together to ensure every Mississippian has the opportunity to thrive! The work is meaningful, the vision is clear, and the best pages are still being written.

📚✨ Teaching Tip Tuesday | Small Groups. BIG Impact.

Small-group literacy instruction should never be just another rotation. When intentionally planned, it becomes one of our most powerful opportunities to meet scholars exactly where they are—and move them forward.

🎯 Standards tell us WHAT scholars need to learn.
📊 Data tells us WHERE scholars are in the learning.
👩🏽‍🏫 Intentional instruction determines HOW we move them forward.

Effective small groups are flexible, targeted, standards-aligned, and data-driven. Use assessment results, observations, student work, and progress-monitoring data to identify specific needs. Then teach with precision, check for understanding, analyze the results, and regroup as needed.

💡 This Week’s Teaching Tip:
Don’t group scholars simply by a label or overall reading level. Group by instructional need. One skill. One standard. One purposeful learning target. Then teach it well!

Right group. Right instruction. Right time. Right results. 💛

Because when we use data to respond—not merely report—we turn assessment into action and small-group time into an opportunity for BIG growth! 📈📖
