Today's Gospel reading includes: “Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. | This is the law and the prophets.” (Luke 7:12)

What we call "The Golden Rule" is one of the Maxims of Jesus used in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd to prepare children for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Children meditate on a set of Maxims handwritten on wooden tablets. This teaches them how to examine their own conscience to better love God and their neighbor. The tablet shape reinforces the unity between the law, the prophets, and Jesus's teaching on the Kingdom of God.

In Lent, this is a good starting point for adults as we examine the ways we may have double standards. How can we model that we are also accountable to show our love for God in how we treat our neighbor?
