The Music Settlement serves as a community anchor in Cleveland, Ohio, offering music lessons, early childhood (preschool and kindergarten) programs, and music therapy to all. The Music Settlement provides top-quality music instruction, early childhood education and music therapy services through our three Centers at two campuses - University Circle (Cleveland east) and Ohio City (Cleveland west). We serve a diverse clientele with offerings available for children as young as three-weeks old to senior adults and all backgrounds and abilities.

Discover the sound of the steel pan.

The Adult Intermediate Steel Drum Ensemble at The Music Settlement is designed for students who have completed at least one semester of the Adult Beginner Steel Drum Ensemble and are ready to grow their skills. This ensemble works with full-size steel drums and explores more intermediate-level music and techniques, all under the direction of Percussion Department Head Drew Parent.

Drums are available at TMS for practice if you do not have your own, so you can keep the sound alive between sessions.

Jessica joins our team as Vice President of Music Center Operations & Chair of the Center for Music, bringing more than 25 years of experience across the arts nonprofit sector as an organizational leader, music educator, teaching artist, and accomplished flutist. Most recently, Jessica served as Executive Director of ChamberFest Cleveland. Her deep roots in the Northeast Ohio arts community include work with The Cleveland Orchestra and a range of chamber music ensembles and youth orchestras. Her personal connection to the settlement community music school model runs deep, shaped by her years of study at Philadelphia's Settlement Music School.

A year of music, community, and confidence.

Music Therapy Musical R***e Jr. is a year-long group experience for kids and young teens with disabilities who want to grow social confidence, express themselves, and connect with others through the joy of making music together.

Led by our Clinical Music Therapist, each session blends singing, dancing, drama skills, and musical games with the kind of intentional social-emotional support that helps young musicians thrive. Every member performs with the group, and every member gets a chance to shine in a solo.

Lyric Lab is where young musicians do more than sing. They write, collaborate, and find their voice, together.

Led by Lyric Lab founder and TMS instructor Christian Evans, this class invites kids and teens to write their own songs and perform them in a warm, choir-style setting. Students begin with playful group songs that build confidence and connection, then gradually explore deeper themes as they grow more comfortable expressing themselves through music. Each semester ends with a live performance of their original songs, along with a recording they get to keep.

Watching Christian work with our students, it is easy to see why this class matters. Every young voice is welcomed. Every song written here belongs to the one who wrote it.

We are proud to share this reflection from René Polin, longtime friend and supporter of The Music Settlement, on what makes the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Music House so exciting for our community.

The Mandel Music House will feature doors that open directly onto our outdoor patio, transforming the way music is shared here. Community members will be able to gather, listen, and even perform in the open air, blurring the line between our building and our neighborhood.

For René, that connection is at the heart of what this project represents. It is not just an expansion of space. It is an invitation for more of our community to come inside, explore the community, and experience music.

Step into the world of Bach with Cleveland's premiere Baroque ensemble.

Young string players are invited to spend a full day with the artists of Les Délices at The Music Settlement for Dancing with Bach, a hands-on workshop exploring the dance forms of J.S. Bach. Try baroque bows, learn baroque techniques, experiment with ornamentation, and play as a full ensemble, all culminating in a public performance for families and friends.
