A light has gone out in the autism community. I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Tameika Meadows, BCBA three years ago when I was visiting Atlanta. She graciously met me for coffee and we brainstormed ways to serve our clients and students in a more robust and loving way. I was looking forward to collaborating with her in the future.

I just received word that Ms. Meadows passed away recently and my heart hurts. I know she will be missed. She inspired so many. 💔

Our world would be a healthier, happier place if we could just hold one another a little bit longer…

Not one of us describes ourselves as "pre-retirement" or "pre-resthome" because that would be living in some future fantasy. Neither are we going to spend our time practising on zimmer-frames or in a wheelchair because we are not 'there', we are here, in the present.
The same goes for infants and young children, they are not "pre-school" and neither should they be practicing to sit on the mat, to write their names, to recite names of colours and the alphabet - unless they choose to. It is time we acknowledged – or learned – how young all children unfold the intelligences they were born with. Be warned, it looks nothing at all like school, it looks like child led free play. For many of us that means we will have to really upskill on child development, and then match the child's unfolding development.
