A Wealth of Instructional Experience With A Proven Track Record of Helping Kids Learn Physics

Following a decade of teaching high school physics in public and private schools in Connecticut and Ohio, I started tutoring privately in 2014 when I left the classroom for a career that affords me more freedom and flexibility. I wanted to maintain my connection to students and to helping them learn phys

This is a very cool development!

Denmark has unveiled a major leap in energy storage with the launch of the world’s first molten hydroxide salt battery system.

Developed by Danish startup Hyme Energy and supported by partners such as Sulzer and Semco Maritime, the facility opened in Esbjerg in April 2024.

This innovative system uses molten salt to store excess renewable energy—like wind and solar—and can later convert it into electricity or industrial heat.

With an efficiency rate of up to 90%, the technology is among the most advanced thermal energy storage solutions globally.

Planned systems, including a 1 GWh unit, could power up to 100,000 homes for 10 hours, helping Denmark stabilize its energy grid and reduce fossil fuel dependence.

The battery also has industrial applications, such as a 200 MWh thermal storage project for Arla Foods to decarbonize milk production.

Denmark’s initiative positions it at the forefront of clean energy storage innovation, combining sustainability with large-scale practical use.

No relativistic relative motion 02/21/2025

Relative motion, baby!

Confession: one of my pieces of silliness is walking the wrong direction on a moving sidewalk (like at the airport) at the just the right speed that I remain stationary relative to the surroundings. I do it only when no one else is on the sidewalk, though. 😆

No relativistic relative motion

I learned something new today. 🤓

Perhaps you remember that the area of a circle is found by multiplying pi by the radius of the circle squared. Perhaps you do not.

Try this:

If you use z for the radius of a circle, you can write the formula for the circle's area as pi*z*z=a.

I bet you won't forget again! 🍕🍕

The solution to your physics problems

Following a ten-year physics teaching career in public and private high schools in Connecticut and Ohio, I began tutoring in 2014. My courses included Conceptual, Regular, Honors, and AP Physics B (now 1 and 2), as well freshman physical science as inclusion and regular education classes. I’ve tutored privately both in person and online, and I worked for two years as an online tutor with Tutor.com, ending in 2016. Since 2015, I’ve tutored online with PrepNow, a nationwide leader in one-on-one tutoring; in that time, my skill set has expanded to include AP Physics C: Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism, algebra- and calculus-based introductory college physics, and SAT Physics Subject Test preparation.

I hold a B.S. in Astronomy & Physics from Yale University and completed the Yale Teacher Preparation Program. I also earned my M.N.S. in Physics from Arizona State University in a program which focused on a research-supported highly effective method for teaching physics called Modeling Instruction, which I employed for the last six years of my teaching career. In 2008 I was accepted as a University of Connecticut Early College Experience Program Instructor, which gave my AP students the opportunity to earn dual credit because the UCONN Department of Physics evaluated my course to be equivalent to their intro course sequence. In 2010 I was selected to attend the National Science Foundation Summer Institute for Physics Teachers, held with the University of Washington Physics Education Research Group.

I believe everyone can learn physics and every student who wants extra support in their learning should be able to get it. I offer a variety of online tutoring packages and programs to meet every budget; visit https://brandyheflin.com/services to see my full range. It’s my joy to be of service!
