Over at Creekside Field Kitchen Summer Camp, there has been plenty of learning, building, and growing. This summer, campers have been getting their hands dirty while exploring the connections between food, nature, and the environment. From building ADA raised beds for the Living Classroom with Shaker Lakes Garden Club Nature Center at Shaker Lakes to constructing a hydroponic tower garden and bee houses with Cox Communications, campers have been helping create spaces that will benefit both people and pollinators for years to come.

Campers have also experienced planting a three sisters garden bed featuring corn, squash, and pole beans, establishing a pumpkin patch, and learning new skills through hands-on cooking demonstrations. It has been inspiring to watch curiosity, confidence, and stewardship grow throughout the summer.

A special thank you to The Sears-Swetland Family Foundation for providing camp scholarships and helping make these experiences accessible to more young learners. Registration is still open for upcoming camp sessions:

Our summer camps at Creekside Field Kitchen are happening this month! If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still time to join us for a hands-on summer experience rooted in food, nature, and outdoor learning!

Campers from grades 3 -8 will explore gardening, harvesting, cooking, and environmental stewardship while building confidence and curiosity outdoors. The camp will include activities like planting fruits and vegetables, learning simple, nutritious recipes and discovering the importance of healthy soil. Each session is designed to connect kids more deeply to the land and the food they eat. Sessions are available throughout the summer. Learn more and register below:

Creekside Field Kitchen's Summer Camps offer a unique summer experience where kids connect with food, nature, and the land through hands-on learning. Campers will help plant and harvest fruits and vegetables, take home what they grow, and learn how to prepare simple, nutritious recipes using fresh ingredients. Beyond the garden, campers will explore organic gardening techniques, learn why healthy soil matters, and engage in activities that build curiosity and confidence outdoors. Space is limited and registration is required. For $25, you'll get to start seven plants for your own garden, choose from four annual seed categories, and learn practical tips for timing and direct seeding to support healthy summer growth.
