So last night's after dinner conversation was about state capitols and I am so proud of Raine. He actually has been taking notes on his own lately and retaining more information than ever. I suppose this homeschool thing is working ❤️
Update! So miacademy has been a godsend for Raine and I'm so freaking happy.
I set up our semester for summer break based on catching up on grade levels.
September 1st is going to be the last day of lessons for these grade levels.
Language Arts 7th Grade
Math 2-3rd Grade
Science 2nd to 6th Grade
Social Studies 3rd to 6th Grade
So by September, Raine will be 8th grade ELA, 4th grade Math, and 7th grade in Science and Social Studies. He'll be comfortable in his levels and even have the ability to catch up to the standard. ❤️
We have settled into a routine. Every morning, we wake up and take time to wake up.
Then it's 15 minutes typing, 30 minutes of Khan Academy math (we're looking into Miacademy if we can fit it in the budget), and then pick a subject on Adventure Academy to deep dive into.
Once he understood there was a definite finish time, he got ok with it.
Are we doing school stuff on Easter? Yes! We're doing our base stuff, typing and math, and then today I'm going to have Raine do a little digging at where Easter actually came from.
Sorry I haven't been keeping up! Raine has finally mastered 73% of the second grade math curriculum on Khan Academy, and now with having a probation officer instead of court looming over our heads we can get more focus on the real stuff.
Raine has been faithfully watering his elephant ear plant and eagerly awaiting the poor thing to sprout up.
Yes, we've been doing stuff, it's just been kinda slow going. Raine has been off meds due to a clerical error, but he'll be back on them tomorrow. He did try to do Khan Academy today, but my computer keyboard died and the batteries won't be here till tomorrow.
We did, however, get kiddo a sub to Adventure Academy for the year and he set his difficulty to intermediate. He seems to really like it so far.
Today, I got him his own houseplant. He's loving his new elephant ear, so I'm going to have him do research and let him learn proper care. It was in a just add water setup at Walmart, so it hasn't even germinated yet. Perfect for learning plant lifecycle. ❤️
Today we did one of the 2nd grade math tests on Khan Academy and Raine got a 75%. I watched. He actually tried very hard, but he definitely doesn't have the foundations mastered yet.
We will continue to press on.
Most of our past week has been just trying on different schedules and just being.
Today, Rob recommended watching Tesla, the 2020 documentary. Raine is learning so much and asking so many questions. I think we might have some more fun in diving in further.
How did "Turning Red" influence our home? It led to the explanation of the boy band phenomenon. Music study, y'all!
Raine has started reading a book about ADHD, and I am very proud

Today at Osterhoudt Academy, we did some Khan Academy, found out Raine is somewhere around second grade level in math (he hasn't mastered the basics yet), and I let him ride his bike about a mile or so to Wendy's with a couple of friends. The group activity was very exciting for him, as he got to learn a bit more about manners and interpersonal skills.
As for Makia, we hooked her up to the toddler leash and took her for a 3/4 mile round trip walk. She got exercise and found two rocks she brought home that we will be painting tomorrow.
