🌎 Can you make water move without stirring it? 🔥❄️
Bring Earth Science to life with this simple 3rd–5th grade experiment.
In this demonstration, we compare what happens when hot water is added to cold water—and cold water is added to hot water. The results give kids a visual introduction to convection currents, the same basic movement that helps explain ocean currents, winds, and the movement of heated material inside Earth. 🌊🌎
🔥 Why does it happen?
When water is heated, it becomes less dense and tends to rise. Cooler water is denser and tends to sink. This creates a continuous movement called a convection current. In the experiment, kids can actually SEE this movement happening!
It’s a simple activity, but it opens the door to big Earth Science concepts—and gives kids a chance to observe, predict, and explain what they see. 🔬
