🌎 Can you make water move without stirring it? 🔥❄️

Bring Earth Science to life with this simple 3rd–5th grade experiment.

In this demonstration, we compare what happens when hot water is added to cold water—and cold water is added to hot water. The results give kids a visual introduction to convection currents, the same basic movement that helps explain ocean currents, winds, and the movement of heated material inside Earth. 🌊🌎

🔥 Why does it happen?
When water is heated, it becomes less dense and tends to rise. Cooler water is denser and tends to sink. This creates a continuous movement called a convection current. In the experiment, kids can actually SEE this movement happening!

It’s a simple activity, but it opens the door to big Earth Science concepts—and gives kids a chance to observe, predict, and explain what they see. 🔬

What a wonderful day welcoming our students back to school. Most students had already memorized Isaiah 40:8 by the end of the day!

We are incredibly grateful to our church community for opening the doors of their beautiful new facilities to us. We can already tell this is going to be a special year!

Our classrooms at CCA are intentionally small, with an average of 7 students per class. Why does this matter?

Every student is known: Teachers have the time and space to provide meaningful support and a tailored education.

Learning goes deeper: we have room for everyone to participate in thoughtful dialogue and the kind of rich conversation that makes a Christian, classical education come alive.

Community grows stronger: our students have tight bonds and are always encouraging one another both inside and outside of the classroom!

If there was one book that you could recommend to other homeschool families, what would it be?

As a part of our staff training this year, we provided teachers with a copy of “Wisdom and Eloquence” by Robert Littlejohn — a book that presents the timeless principles behind Christian, classical education.

We encourage parents to grab a copy of this book as well! By reading together, we are building a strong community of teachers and families that can equip our students to honor Christ and influence the world around them by thinking deeply, communicating clearly, and pursuing truth.

We are excited for the year ahead!

While Wonderful Wednesdays provide a lot of fun for students, there is much more going on under the surface. Our enriching program is planned with intentionality, creating a Christ-centered space where students can:

🌱 Grow deeper relationships in a smaller crowd
🎨 Ignite creativity through STEAM, art, and theatre
📖 Integrate memory work into learning and play

🌱 The Pre-K and Kindergarten years are where a lifelong love of learning begins and the foundation for strong literacy is built.

Last year, our Kindergarten students made incredible growth in their reading skills 📈 increasing their average reading fluency from 11.6 words per minute at the beginning of the year to 50.6 words per minute by year's end. That's the level of reading fluency typically expected at the end of first grade! 🌟

We're so proud of our students and teachers for the dedication that made this growth possible, and we're excited to continue helping young learners discover the joy and confidence that comes with reading.
